Roanoke holds school registration

Roanoke City Public Schools will hold registration March 21 and 22 for children entering kindergarten and first grade in the fall.

Children currently enrolled in private kindergarten who will enter the public school system next year, as well as children who were eligible for kindergarten in 1995-1996 but were not enrolled also may register at this time.

Pre-school applications for 4-year-olds also will be accepted.

Children who will be 5 years old before Sept. 30 are eligible for kindergarten, and those who will be 4 before Sept. 30 are eligible for pre-school.

Parents should register at the elementary school their child will attend, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Attendance zone information is available by calling 853-2816.

College prep program seeks students

Upward Bound, a Roanoke College program to prepare high school students for college, is recruiting for its 1996 summer and fall sessions.

Students in the ninth and 10th grades at Northside, Salem, Patrick Henry, Glenvar and William Fleming high schools are eligible to attend.

Interested students should see their school counselors for information. All applications must be submitted by April 26. Call 375-2246 or 375-2314 for information.
