SALEM WOMAN HIT, ROBBED OUTSIDE BANK

A man made off with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing a Salem woman as she was about to make a night deposit Tuesday.

The woman, whose name and age were not released, was standing outside the Crestar Bank on West Main Street in Salem about 10:20 p.m. when a man approached her, police said. She turned to look at him, and he hit her in the head with a beer bottle, grabbed her by the hair and pushed her to the ground, Sgt. D.R. Divers said.

The assailant grabbed the money bag she was about to deposit and fled.

The woman, who is an employee of the Spartan Food Store in Salem, suffered minor injuries, police said. She was treated at Lewis-Gale Medical Center and released.
