NORTHWEST HOME ABLAZE

LENGTH: Short : 21 lines
ILLUSTRATION: PHOTO: PAUL L. NEWBY II/Staff. A fire that apparently began in

a clothes dryer damaged a Northwest Roanoke house Monday morning,

displacing residents Hugh and Doris Ennis. No one was injured. But

the house at 1811 Syracuse Ave. sustained about $50,000 in damages,

according to fire officials. Doris Ennis was upstairs when the fire

began. "I heard the crackling and thought it was a thunderstorm,"

she said. When she saw smoke and fire, "I just kept moving and

never looked back." Fire investigators think lint behind the

downstairs dryer caught fire. color.
