COLLEGE NOTES

WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY has announced three Roanoke students who earned dean's list status for the winter term.

They are: Jennifer Bowles Royster, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Royster; Chad Christopher Sartini, son of Mr. and Mrs. V.J. Sartini III; and Ashley Blake Matthews, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Matthews Jr.

ROANOKE COLLEGE has awarded the following Roanoke-area students the Fintel Scholarship for 1996-97: Amy K. Hollar from Roanoke; Benjamin W. Dalton, Sarah J. Goodman and Leigh A. Muir from Salem; and Virginia L. Robinson from New Castle.

Fintel Scholarships are awarded to seniors at Roanoke College who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

CARRIE S. LOWE of Eagle Rock, a senior at James River High School, recently received a Leadership Activities Scholarship at Barton College in Wilson, N.C.

Leadership Activities Scholarships are awarded to incoming students who have demonstrated leadership and academic ability.

CAROL JUNE GLOVER of Daleville was recently inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing at Lynchburg College.

JULIE ANN CARPER, daughter of Steve and Teresa Frye and Guy Robinette, all of Roanoke, recently graduated from Shenandoah University in Winchester with a master's degree in occupational therapy.

ERIN KATHLEEN MACHADO, of Roanoke, received a bachelor of arts degree in English from East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C.

AMANDA GAIL FRAZIER, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edwin R. Frazier of Roanoke, is the recipient of a $1,000 I. Ruth Martin scholarship and a $250 Mae P. Ayers scholarship. She is a senior majoring in English at Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, N.C.

FERRUM COLLEGE has announced the names of the following Roanoke-area students to receive degrees.

Those from Roanoke are: Stacy Renee Beumer, B.S. in psychology; Khantanh Chanthavixay, B.S. in accounting/financial management; James Thomas Garris, B.S. in management; JoEllen Gordon, B.S. in physical education; Meredith Gray Kendall, B.A. in Russian; Kelly J. Mauck, B.S. in environmental science.

From Salem: Christopher Lee Garrett, B.S. in physical education; Thomas L. Mollette, B.A. in art; Mollie Ann Powers, B.S.W. in social work; Erin Holley Updike, B.S. in psychology.

From Fincastle: James Edward Iten, Jr., B.S. in environmental science.

From Blue Ridge: Craig Nicol, B.S. in environmental science; and Songseng N. Xayavong, B.S. in preprofessional science.

LONGWOOD COLLEGE has announced the names of the following Roanoke area students to receive degrees.

Those from Roanoke are: Christopher Thomas Coffey, B.S. in business administration; Karen Mason Carter, B.S. in physical education; Debra Edwards Gray, M.S. in education; Stephanie Sutton Sample, M.S. in education.

From Vinton: Stephanie Anne Chisholm, B.A. in English.

WILLIAM SCOTT THOMASSON, son of Mrs. Judy N. Ross, a senior at Hampden-Sydney College, has been named an inductee to the Iota of Virginia chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, a national honor fraternity in economics.

MICHAEL DAVID JONES, son of Ronald and Muriel Jones of New Castle, received the Pharmacy Alumni Scholarship at the Campbell University School of Pharmacy Annual Parents' Day Awards and Scholarships reception.

KRISTIN WESTERMANN, daughter of Dwayne and Kay Westermann of Roanoke, has been selected for membership in the Senior Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa at Wittenberg University, Ohio. ODK is a national senior leadership honor society recognizing leadership in scholarship, athletics, university publications, cultural life and student affairs. Westermann is also an active member of Alpha Lambda Delta, first-year national honor society and Ivy Ring service honor society.

ABRINA MARIE SCHNURMAN, of Roanoke, was elected to membership in the Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Schnurman is a senior majoring in psychology and is a university marshal and a member of Psi Chi national psychology honor society. Students are elected to Phi Beta Kappa on the basis of their academic achievements in the liberal arts and sciences during their undergraduate years at UNCG.

THERESA HARPOLD, daughter of Lynne and Mike Kirby of Roanoke County, received a doctor of medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

Harpold is a 1986 graduate of Cave Spring High School and a 1992 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University.

EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE recently named its spring semester graduates.

Those from Roanoke are: Michael Wayne Brookman Jr., Suzanne Britt Luther, Melissa Anne Mitchell, Geoffrey Jason Pendleton, Stacy LeAn Smith, Andrea Nicole Herron and Kristi Lyn Glass.

From Vinton: Hunter Robert Durham and Preston C. Lowe.

DAVID MORAN SCHLEUPNER, son of Dr. and Mrs. Charles J. Schleupner of Roanoke, recently graduated from Duke University in Durham N.C., with a bachelor of science degree.

JENNIFER CLAIRE WAYBRIGHT, daughter of Charles and Nancy Waybright of Roanoke, graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.

She is a 1992 graduate of William Fleming High School and CITY School.

ERNEST CLARK JR., son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Clark of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's honor list for the 1996 winter quarter at Cedarville College in Ohio.

He is a sophomore Bible major and a 1994 graduate of Roanoke Valley Christian High School.

LAURA NEELY ROSEBRO of Roanoke received a master of social work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She is a 1992 graduate of Radford University and attended Cave Spring High School.

Rosebro plans to pursue her Virginia licensure as a clinical social worker.

AMANDA ELIZABETH WIMMER of Roanoke received a master's in business administration from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

DANIEL ROLAND JOHNSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Johnson Jr. of Roanoke, received a bachelor of arts degree in liberal arts from Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn.

AMANDA LEA BELANGER of Roanoke was one of 11 students inducted into the Virginia Intermont College chapter of the national business honor society Sigma Beta Delta.

KELLY ANN LEWIS, daughter of John and Sandra Lewis of Roanoke, was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma national honor business society at James Madison University in Harrisonburg.
