LUCCI LOSES - AGAIN; DONAHUE'S CAREER NOTED

The 16th time wasn't the charm for soap opera star Susan Lucci, who watched Erika Slezak of ``One Life to Live'' win the best actress award for a second straight year Wednesday at the 23rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

Phil Donahue, the departing dean of daytime talk shows, also lost out, to Montel Williams, in the Emmy competition for best talk show host. But Donahue did get an award for lifetime achievement.

Lucci, who has played campy temptress Erica Kane on ``All My Children'' for more than two decades, has been nominated nearly ever year but never won.

Charles Keating of ``Another World'' won the best actor Emmy. Jerry Ver Dorn won best supporting actor for ``Guiding Light'' and Anna Holbrook won best supporting actress for ``Another World.''

Shari Lewis won outstanding performer in a children's series for ``Lamb Chop's Play-Along.''
