MAN CHARGED IN ACCIDENT

A Boones Mill man was charged Monday in connection with a three-car accident Sunday night on U.S. 220.

Gary Hodges, 46, was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving.

Hodges was traveling south near Yellow Mountain Road in Roanoke County about 9:30 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle, said Officer S.M. Belanger of the Roanoke County Police Department.

"He struck a highway sign and crossed the median into the northbound lane, where he hit the vehicle carrying Wayne Wampler, 38, and his wife, Yvonne, of Lexington head on,'' Belanger said. Hodges' pickup truck then slid sideways into the driver's side of a car driven by Marvin Shorter, 29, of Roanoke.

Wayne Wampler was listed in stable condition Monday night at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.

No one else suffered serious injuries.
