2 PULASKI BOOKSTORES TO CLOSE

Downtown Pulaski is about to lose both the used bookstores it has boasted for several years.

Walker Creek Used Bookstore at 226 N. Jefferson Ave. will close at the end of the business day Saturday, and will be open only on Fridays and Saturdays until then.

"After two years of operation, sales simply have not built to the point where we could justify continuing," said Courtney Haynes, who owns the store with her husband, Dick Haynes. "We have met many fine, very interesting people here and, if we could continue simply for enjoyment, we would."

The couple has opened a store in south Richmond named Autumn's Books, in honor of their younger daughter, and most of the Pulaski inventory will be shipped there. They still will do some business in Southwest Virginia from their home in Bland County as a mail order and search service for books, and will buy books for their Richmond store.

Also closing soon is the Mountain Peddler store at 59 W. Main St., which features glassware and other items as well as books.
