Choral society program

Wanted: singers and conductors for a summer sing featuring "The Creation" by Haydn. Come to Fitzpatrick Hall, The Jefferson Center, Monday at 7:30 p.m. Solos and choruses will be assigned first-come, first-served.

Ms. Va. Senior Citizen

The 1996 Ms. Virginia Senior Citizen Pageant will be held in Roanoke Aug. 22-24. Virginia women 55 or older may enter. Competitions will include evening wear, day wear, a personal interview with judges and talent. The state winner will be sent to the Ms. National Senior Citizen Pageant in Illinois in October. West African dance

Learn traditional West African dance movements from a former member of the Olufimoilayo West African Dance Theater Aug. 5-9, 7-9:30 p.m. at the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center.

The classes are open to ages 16 to adult. There is a $50 fee. To register, call (804) 846-8451.

Genealogy for kids

``Tracing the Roots: A Genealogy Primer for Kids,'' will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Salem Museum.

The workshop is designed for children and their parents or grandparents to attend together.

Genealogists Phyllis and Cindy Olinger will help children begin to answer the age-old question ``Where did I come from?'' The mother-daughter team from Blacksburg recently published a genealogy workbook for children.

There is a $12 fee per child to cover the cost of materials. Reservations are required.

Bland Pig Pickin' '96

BASTIAN - Pig Pickin' '96 will be held 4-9 p.m. Aug. 3 by the Bland County Football Boosters at the football field in Bastian.

Besides the meal, games and prizes will be offered for children, raffle tickets will be sold for other prizes, and people buying advanced tickets from any of the boosters will be eligible for a drawing for two season tickets to all Bland County home football games.

Gospel singing will start at 6 p.m. with other entertainment following including a men's beauty contest, with football players and coaches as contestants, at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for children under 12 years of age, and $1 for those not eating. Lana Lindamood Hall will be emcee.
