NUNN NAMED PRESIDENT OF ETS INC.

ARTHUR B. NUNN III has been named president of ETS Inc., a subsidiary of Roanoke-based ETS International Inc. He succeeds JOHN C. MYCOCK, who was interim president of the company following the death in 1995 of its president, GARY GREINER.

Nunn joined the company in 1995 when ETS acquired Air Compliance Inc., of which he was owner and president. Mycock will return full time to his responsibilities for ETS International Inc., a technology company that provides infrastructure design and construction as well as environmental services and products.

BANKING

BEN JENKINS has been elected chairman of the board for First Union National Bank's operations in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. As part of terms of the 1993 acquisition of Roanoke-based Dominion Bankshares Corp. by First Union Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., Jenkins replaces WARNER DALHOUSE, who will remain a member of the board but retired last month as chairman. Jenkins will retain his current positions as the bank's president and chief executive officer.

MATTHEW A.R. CONVERSE has been appointed vice president/corporate risk manager of MainStreet BankGroup Inc. in Martinsville. He joined the company from NationsBank in 1989 as a trust auditor and most recently held the position of assistant vice president, audit manager.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

DAVID CURTIS, head of the art program at Virginia Western Community College, has been selected as a Fulbright exchange teacher to represent the United States in England. Curtis will teach during the 1996-1997 academic year at Southport College, Southport, Merseyside, England. His exchange partner is DAVID WEBSTER of Southport College, who will assume Curtis' responsibilities at VWCC in August.

MARTIN AYLESWORTH has been named assistant to the vice president for academic affairs at Radford University. Aylesworth has been associate dean of Radford's College of Education and Human Development since 1992.

Also at Radford, GARY ELLERMAN has been named interim director of continuing education. Ellerman, who has been a member of the educational studies faculty since 1974, was assistant dean of the College of Education for 12 years and has been acting dean of the college twice.

ENVIRONMENT

WARREN A. EVENSON has joined Roanoke-based Environmental Directions Inc. Evenson is a certified professional geologist in Virginia and the surrounding states. He has 20 years' experience in environmental services, including supervising environmental sites, making remediation assessments and preparing state and federal air and water discharge permits.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

WANDA JOHNSON has been elected vice president of Wheat First Butcher Singer Inc., a Richmond-based securities broker. She is a lead systems analyst in the firm's information systems development department. Prior to joining Wheat First, she worked as a programmer at Lawyers Title Insurance.

SHERRY DALGLISH has joined Davenport & Co. of Virginia Inc.'s Roanoke office. Dalglish comes to the Richmond-based investment firm from Interstate/Johnson Lane. She has more than 16 years' experience in the banking and finance industry, four of those years with investment firms.

GOVERNMENT

CRAIG W. HATMAKER has been hired as director of management and information systems for Roanoke County. He replaces OSCAR BRYANT, who has joined Delta Dental Insurance. Hatmaker has worked with Transkrit Inc. as manager of applications development since 1994, and before that spent five years with Canon Inc. as manager of management and information services.

INSURANCE

JEFF "WHITEY" WEBB has joined The Mutual Life Insurance Co. of New York's Roanoke office as a field underwriter. He is a former alumni director of Roanoke College.

WILLIAM I. CUNNINGHAM has been hired by Corporate Concepts Inc. in Roanoke as an employee benefits specialist. He will be responsible for health, life, disability and dental insurance and pension planning.

ORGANIZATIONS

DEB OYLER, president and chief executive officer of Environmental Directions Inc., has been elected president of the National Association of Women Business Owners, Blue Ridge Regional Chapter. GAIL GODSEY of Safeguard Business Systems has been elected treasurer of the organization.

The Virginia Chapter of Tax Executives Institute Inc. has elected new officers: JOSEPH A. HOPKINS, Norfolk Southern Corp., president; WAYNE E. SINE, Southern States Cooperative Inc., vice president; JOHN S. ESTES, James River Corp. of Virginia, secretary; and DAVID J. BOWLING, CSX Corp., treasurer.

TRAVEL AND TOURISM

The Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau has elected BETH POFF president of the bureau's board. Poff, who is executive director of Mill Mountain Zoological Park, was vice president of the bureau during fiscal year 1995-1996.

Other officers are GERALD CARTER, general manager of Holiday Inn-Tanglewood, vice president; GARY WALTON, general manager of Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, secretary; and E.C. WARREN II, owner and manager of the Roanoker Restaurant, treasurer. JAMES SEARS, president and general manager of Center in the Square, is past president.
