ANGELL, Josephine Mays, 87, of Roanoke, passed away Monday July 29, 1996. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel.

ARTHUR, James Russell, 89, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, July 28, 1996. He was born December 3, 1906, in Roanoke, a son of the late Conrad M. Arthur and Eva Hensley Arthur of Lynchburg. He was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church and is survived by his wife, Etta Marie Godbey Arthur; and one sister, Vivian A. Hudson of Lynchburg. He was a brother of the late Darwin M. Arthur of Altavista and Thelma A. Hudson of Lynchburg. Also surviving are three daughters and two sons, Mary Jane Seibel, Uniontown, Ohio, Barbara A. Woodford, Huddleston, Rose A. Snidow, Newport News, James R. Arthur Jr., Huddleston, Charles Edward Arthur, Hickory, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. James D. Newman and Rev. Daren Davis at Whitten's Timberlake Chapel on Wednesday, July 31, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery, Huddleston. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 30, 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Arthur will be staying at the home of her daughter, Barbara Woodford in Huddleston until after the funeral. The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

CARICO, Ruth B., 87, of 310 Parkwood Drive, Galax, died Sunday, July 28, 1996, at home. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Ruby Burris, Independence; nephews, Warren Vaught, Galax, Johnny Burris, Independence, Billy Burris, Greensboro, N.C.; nieces, Wanda Sturdivant and Hazel Santos, both of Galax; a special friend, Mildred Don ithan, Galax; and several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 1996, in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel. Interment will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery. Officiating minister will be the Rev. CARPER, June Callahan, 74, of Rocky Mount, died Monday, July 29, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. She was the widow of David Ashby Carper, and was a member of Colonial Presbyterian Church, Roanoke, and presently attended Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, Rocky Mount. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, David and Babs Carper, Rocky Mount; one grandson, Bradley Carper, Rocky Mount; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Donald and Ruby Callahan, Harrisonburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Olivia and Dr. Guy Mattingly, Annandale; eight nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren with Pastor Bruce Huffman and Rev. H. Fleet Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke. CLEMENT, Helen F. (Pat), 78, of Radford, died Monday July 29, 1996 in the Radford Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry R. Clement; a sister, Juanita H. (Mickey) Clement; and a brother, Warren Clement. Surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Louis C. and Homer H. Cole, Radford; four nieces, Susan Graham, Emily Williams, Anne Aker, and Kristin Abernathy; a nephew, Michael Cole. CONNER, Albert Eugene, 54, of Boones Mill, died Sunday, July 28, 1996, at his home from a brain tumor. He was born June 3, 1942, at Copper Hill, to the late John Posey and Ada Nichoels Conner. He was employed by Roanoke Electric Steel for 27 years. Surviving are his wife, Janet Sue Harden Conner; three children, Michael Eugene, Marjorie Sue (Cissy), and Eric Brenton Conner; one daughter-in-law, Sherry Conner; two adored grandchildren, Amanda Conner, Harley Ledbetter; two sisters, Mary Louise Nichoels, Ressie Conner, both of Copper Hill; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Masey Conner, Copper Hill, Henry and Geraldine Conner, Salem; his mother-in-law, Margie Meadow Harden and her family, Bill and Lois Harden, Bobby and Carol Harden, all of Boones Mill, Ronnie and Linda Harden, Rocky Mount; one special sister-in-law, Betty Perdue, Boones Mill; one special grand-nephew, Jason Harden; many nieces and nephews. DAVIS, Lillian W., 85, of 6615 Poplar Springs Dr., Meridian, Miss., died Sunday, July 28, 1996, at her home. She was a native of Meridian, Miss., a homemaker, and the longest member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and class pianist for many years. Survivors are sons, John Davis, Rad ford, Perry Davis Jr., Selma, Ala.; sister, Maye Rhodes, Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Cheryl Till and Debra Mason, both of Selma, Ala., Jim Davis, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Laura Davis, Charlotte, N.C., Michael Davis, Radford. FITZGERALD, David Lee, Sr., 59, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, July 28, 1996 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born July 27, 1937 in Nelson County, he was the son of the late Willie H. and Ettie Layton Fitzgerald. He is survived by three daughters, Donna F. Thomas and Cheryl F. Moore, both of Natural Bridge Station, and Linda F. Bryson of Buena Vista; a son, David Lee Fitzgerald, Jr. of Lexington; three sisters, Irene Lawhorne and Geraldine Grant, both of Buena Vista and Joyce Allen of Vesuvius; five brothers, Robert L. Fitzgerald and Willie H. Fitzgerald, both of Buena Vista, Samuel W. Fitzgerald and Dennis C. Fitzgerald of Pennsylvania and Sherman H. Fitzgerald of Oklahoma; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 1996, at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. GOFF, Louise, 86, of Marion, widow of Leon O. Goff, died Sunday, July 28, 1996, in the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie. She is survived by three daughters, Donna Love of Chilhowie, Louella Camacho of Rio Vista, Calif., and Barbara Rexilus of Vermontville, N.Y.; one son, Charles Goff of Temple, Texas; one sister, Maize Gebhardt of Pekin, Ill; one brother, George Eugene Wagener of Tuckerton, N.J.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A private burial will be held later at the Paradise Cemetery in Paradise, Calif. The re will be no visitation or funeral held in Marion. Seaver-Brown Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements

GRAHAM, Richard Lee, (``Rick""), 29, of Salem, passed away Friday, July 26, 1996. He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Maske Graham. He is survived by his father, Ronnie A. Graham; a sister, Gayle Graham; brothers, Randy Graham, and Michael (``Mike"") Graham and his wife, Peggy; four nieces; one nephew, and his grandmothers, Mae Y. MORGAN, John Curtis, 84, of Riner, passed away Sunday, July 28, 1996, in Radford Community Hospital. Mr. Morgan was a resident of the Riner community for the past 25 years, a retired employee of Burlington Textiles with 29 years of service, as well as a life member of Montgomery County Moose Lodge #1470. Preceded in death by his wife, Florence Wood Morgan, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John C. Jr. and Kerry Morgan, Minco, Okla; one daughter and son-in-law, Katie M. and Jon Altizer, Riner; grandchildren, Debbie Morgan and Tim Shue, Donna and Ricky Atkins, Jay and Pam Altizer, Jennifer and Bob Canevari, David Morgan, Karrie Sowers; several great-grandchildren; a cousin, Jack Morgan, Maryland. PALMER, Aaron J., 12, of Salem, died Saturday, July 27,1996 in Community Hospital, Roanoke. He attended East Salem Elementary School, enjoyed fishing, roller blading and swimming with his friends. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Pamela and Jack R. Terry of Salem; father and stepmother, Shannon M. and Brenda W. Palmer of Vinton; brother, Shawn M. Palmer; maternal grandparents, Cyrus H. and Kathy McCormick, New Castle; paternal grandparents, Glovern and Elsie Palmer, Salem; stepbrothers; stepsisters; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. PENDLETON, Jacob Dillard, (``Jake''), 68, of Rocky Mount, died Saturday, July 27, 1996. Born Ma y 15, 1928, he was a son of the late Noah Cabell and Grace Sower Pendleton. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and member of the American Legion Post #96, Callaway. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Hodges and Mary Pendleton; a brother, Wilson Pendleton. A loving husband of 44 years, he is survived by his wife, Melva Brown Pendleton; one son, Marque Pendleton of Rocky Mount; three sisters, Hilda Guilliams of Callaway, Maude Bolling of Roanoke, Carol Ann Ferguson of Glade Hill; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Howard and Betty Pendleton of Rocky Mount, Wilton and Hazel Pendleton of Callaway, Frank Pendleton of Roanoke; 17 nieces and nephews; special friends, Paul Guillams, Carter Agee, Herman Walker, and Annette Hoge. ROWE, Eleanor Elizabeth Sweet, 80, of Hollins, passed away Sunday, July 28, 1996 after a long illness. A faithful wife and devoted mother, she was an Avon representative in the Hollins area for many years. Surviving are husband, James E. Rowe; son and daughter-in-law, James E.
