THE VIRGINIA TECH QUALITY OF LIFE SURVEY

Virginia Tech's Center for Survey Research polled 1,168 adult Virginians between April 21-May 22. The margin of error is 2.9 percent. Numbers may not add up to 100 percent due to rounding.

UNIFORMS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

A bare majority of Virginians - 52 percent - are opposed to requiring students in public schools to wear uniforms.

Communities should require students in public schools to wear uniforms.

There's a regional divide on this issue. Most Virginians who live in the urban crescent think it's a good idea (56 percent); most Virginians who live in the rest of the state don't (65 percent).
