DRIVER STABBED IN CAR

A West Virginia man was stabbed repeatedly and his car stolen Wednesday after a confrontation with his passenger while traveling near Interstate 81 in Botetourt County.

Jeffrey Edward Bean was driving on Virginia FO54 near the Arcadia exit of I-81 with Curtis Vickers, 30, also of West Virginia, when a dispute broke out between them, state police Sgt. P.W. Delaney said.

Because the men are carnival workers, police were unable to obtain fixed addresses.

State police received a cellular 911 call about 5:52 p.m. after Bean jumped a fence and flagged down a car on I-81.

He had been stabbed at least four times, Delaney said. "He was cut up pretty bad."

Bean was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and released Wednesday night, Delaney said.

State police have filed felony malicious wounding and grand larceny charges against Vickers.

Vickers is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet 4 inches tall and 200 pounds, with long black hair and tattoos prominently displayed on both arms. He may still be driving Bean's car, a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass with West Virginia plates and slight damage to the right front and rear of the vehicle.

Police suspect Vickers may be heading back to West Virginia or possibly to Tennessee or Delaware, where he has many connections.
