Art entries accepted

The League of Roanoke Artists is accepting entries for the 11th annual Showcase of the Arts, to be presented Sept. 28-Oct. 25 at The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center.

Area professionals and amateurs 18 years and older may submit original works in any fine arts media. There is an entry fee.

Bring entries to the hotel Sept. 27 from 2 to 6 p.m. Accepted works will be judged and eligible for cash awards.

The exhibit is open to the public at no charge during hotel operating hours.

Photography show

The 1996 Lynchburg Area Juried Photography Show, open to all photographers within a 150-mile radius of Lynchburg, will be on display from Sept. 8 through Oct. 12 in the center's Dillard Gallery.

Artists may submit up to three entries, which should be delivered to the center Aug. 30 between noon and 4 p.m. or Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Original, photographically derived works completed since January 1993 are eligible submissions. The entry fee is $15.

More than $1,000 in awards have been donated for this event, juried this year by Robert Sulkin, associate professor of art at Hollins College. The Traveling Exhibition and Museum Services division of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has compiled a 10-year retrospective exhibition of Sulkin's work, which will have its debut at the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center, concurrent with the photography show.

The public is invited to attend a reception celebrating the opening of both exhibitions Sept. 8 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sulkin will deliver a Gallery Talk at 3:30 p.m.

For more information, call (804) 846-8451.
