VOLUNTEERS NEEDED SATURDAY IN BENT MOUNTAIN

Bent Mountain residents are urged to bring shovels and rakes to Bent Mountain Elementary School on Saturday at 9 a.m., weather permitting, to help spread gravel on the community's new fitness trail.

Presently under construction, the tenth-of-a-mile loop will have connectors to the school's playground and gymnasium, making the total distance one-quarter mile.

The trail, winding through pasture land and a cluster of trees, is intended for use by the school and community. No vehicles will be permitted.

The joint project of the Bent Mountain Civic League, Woman's Club and PTA has been funded by a matching grant from the Capital Improvement Incentives Fund of the Roanoke County Parks and Recreation Department.
