CELTICS STEAMROLL BRUNSWICK

Roanoke Catholic used strong defense and strong running game Saturday to shut down Brunswick Academy, the defending Virginia Independent Schools Division II state champions, 19-7 at Victory Stadium.

The Celtics (2-0) were led P.J. Moyer, who rushed for 172 yards on 26 carries. The Celtics rushed for 225 total yards and their defense forced four turnovers.

Terron Reed and Glenn Radcliffe each had key interceptions.

In a Friday night high school game:

Fort Chiswell 20, George Wythe 12 In Wytheville, the Pioneers won a county rivalry with the long run. Nathan Houchins, Philip Russell and John Williams all had scoring runs of more than 35 yards.

Williams, though, had to reverse a trend with a late touchdown. Wythe cut the Pioneers' lead to 14-12 when Chris Richardson, who rushed for 141 yards, scored from the 2 in the final quarter.
