AUSTIN, Theresa Ann, (``Terri""), 29, of Conner Road, Copper Hill, passed away Saturday, August 31, 1996, in a Salem hospital. A graduate of Floyd County High School, Class of 1985, she later graduated with an Associate's Degree from Virginia Western Community College in 1987. She was a legal secretary with the law firm of Greenberg and Associates. Surviving are her husband, Tim Austin; a daughter, Ashley R. Austin; a son, Jacob Odell Austin; her mother, Crystal Booth of Roanoke; her father and his wife, Sonny W. and Jane Booth of Roanoke; her grandmother, Drucilla Booth of Copper Hill; three brothers, Barry Booth, Bobby Palmer and Mark Palmer, all of the Roanoke area, and a sister, Mellissa (``Missy"") Thurman of Roanoke. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1996, from Oakey's North Chapel. The Rev. Stanley Hawkins will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel.

COX, Ila Beatrice Altizer, 81, of Floyd County, passed away Sunday, September 1, 1996, in a Salem hospital. She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Hollandsworth of Christiansburg and Bonnie Wade of Roanoke; one son, Wilkie Cox of Christiansburg; two brothers, Archie Altizer of Radford and Frank Altizer Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz., and one sister, Edith Williams of Delaware. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1996, at White Rock Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Kenny Wurzburger and Elder Will ard Cox officiating. McALLISTER, Frederick L., (``Uncle Fred""), 76, of Roanoke, died Friday, August 30, 1996. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Mary Evelyn; son, Mark McAllister; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Todd Suthers; grandsons, Daniel and J. R.; sisters, Dorothy Davis, Louise Redman and Ethel (Henry) Schilt; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou and Mary Mc, and a host of nieces, nephe ws and friends. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1996, with Derry Gray and Elwood McAllister officiating. MURRAY, William Seldon, Jr., 85, a lifelong resident of Hollins, died Sunday, September 1, 1996. He graduated from Daleville Academy and attended Roanoke College. He retired from the Material Management Department of the Norfolk and Western Railway with over 47 years of service. Mr. Murray had a second career as a florist and horticulturist, specializing in floral decorations for weddings and growing Dutch Iris for commercial sale. He helped organize, was a charter member of and an honorary life member and served as president of the North Roanoke Rotary Club, serving as a District Governor's Representative of District 757 and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. A communicant of Christ Episcopal Church, he was a member of the Vestry, a representative to the Diocesan Council, a Sunday School teacher, a breakfast club volunteer and Receiving Treasurer. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Corinne McGehee Murray; a daughter and her husband, Dr. Rosalyn M. Lester and Dr. C. Ned Lester of Blacksburg; a son and his wife, W. Seldon Murray III and Carolyn Raines Murray of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren, J. Craig Lester and his wife, Kerri G. Lester of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Elizabeth S. Lester of San Diego, Calif., and William S. Murray IV and Corinne May Murray of Memphis, Tenn.; sisters, Louise M. Huffman of Roanoke and Flora M. Showalter of Troutville, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1996, from Christ Episcopal Church, Roanoke. The Rev. Deborah Hunley will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel.

NANCE, Robert Earl, 66, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 1996. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with Elder Alvin Murdock officiating. Burial will be in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service (1:30 p.m.) at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel.

PARKER, Amos, 90, of Salem, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 1996. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cornelia DeBerry Parker; three daughters, Mrs. Bernice Lewis, Mrs. Wincey Parker Recard and Mrs. Nora Jean Sample of Salem; four grandsons, William (``Billy"") Sample of Washington Township, N.J., Thomas Sample and Steve Sample of Salem and Anthony (``Tony"") Sample of Roanoke; four great-grandsons, Nikki, Ian and Travis Sample of Washington Township, N.J., and Ryam Sample of Roanoke; one godchild, Princess Patterson of Salem; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Valley Parker of Greensboro, N.C., and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with burial in Williams Memorial Park. SINK, Lydia Winaford Townsend, 97, of Roanoke, died Sunday, September 1, 1996, at the residence. She was preceded in death by two sons, Sherwood F. Townsend and E. E. (``Jack"") Sink. Survivors include one daughter, Edna Sink Harris of the home; one sister, Mary T. Harris of Roanoke; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and four special nieces. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1996, from the Lotz Roanoke Chapel, with the Rev. Daniel Scott and the Rev. R ick Via officiating. SMITH, James Robert, (``Jimmy""), 31, of Floyd, passed away Saturday, August 31, 1996, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Thelma Smith. Survivors are a brother and sister-in-law, Pete L. and Glenna Smith of Check; sisters and brothers-in-law; Helen and Foster Williams, and Dorothy (``Dot"") and David Hylton of Willis, Thelma and Ben Spangler of Shawsville and Debbie Smith of Check, and 10 nieces and nephews. THOMAS, Elizabeth Alma, 81, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. She was born in Nelson County on July 4, 1915, a daughter of the late Franklin P. Allen and Sarah Alice Campbell Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hargis Thomas; a daughter, Betty T. Morgan, a nd two sons, William (``Tommy"") Thomas and Billy Allen (``B. T."") Thomas. She is survived by a sister, Maybell Zimmerman of Roanoke; three granddaughters, Kimberly T. Stanley, Tanga S. Fitzgibbon and Dana M. Perry; two grandsons, William J. (``Bill"") Thomas and Emory Sexton, and a daughter-in-law, Judy T. Lucado. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1996, from Updike Funeral Chapel, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. THOMPSON-ALTIZER, Barbara J., 61, of Christiansburg, died early Sunday, September 1,1996, in Radford Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lola Light Altizer and Roy Shelor Altizer. A member of the East Side Church of Christ in Christiansburg, she is survived by a loving companion, Lyman J. Jones, Sr. of Christiansburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Reginald W. and Patricia M. Altizer of Christiansburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Regina A. and Howard G. Spradlin Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; a niece and her husband, Suzanne A. and Tony Riley of Colonial Heights; five nephews, Todd M. Altizer and Kevin L. Altizer of Christiansburg, Christopher S. Spradlin of Memphis, Tenn., and Jason C. Spradlin and Jeremy S. Spradlin of Greensboro. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel. UMBERGER, Melva Gray, 55, of Roanoke, died Friday, August 30, 1996, at a local hospital. Surviving are her husband, Paul Umberger; a daughter, Tammy Lynn Umberger; a granddaughter, Cierra Angella L. Umberger, all of Roanoke; stepdaughters, Martha Robinson, Vinton, Brenda F. Lee, Roanoke, Patricia G. Furrow, Thaxton; four stepgrandchildren; sisters, Geraldine V. WRIGHT, Carrie W., 87, of Roanoke, died Sunday, September 1, 1996. She was the widow of Rex R. Wright, a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wright is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Millie Ward of Pauma Valley, Calif.; a nephew and wife, Henry and Margaret Frantz of Supply, N.C.; a great-niece and husband, Leigh Anne and Jackie Phillips of Hillsville; great-nephews and wives, Randy and Kristina Newberry of Bland, and Tony and Nancy Newberry, and a great-great-niece, Beth Newberry, all of Lexington, Ky.; and several nieces. Funeral services will be at 12 noon Wednesday, September 4, 1996, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, with the Rev. William B. Ramey Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Raleigh Court United Methodist Church.
