SALEM MAN HOSPITALIZED AFTER SHOOTING ACCIDENT

A Salem man was in serious but stable condition Monday after an apparent accidental gunshot wound Sunday evening.

Woodrow Dennis Gibson, 19, of the Willow River apartment complex in the 1700 block of Lancing Drive, was taken by a rescue vehicle to Roanoke Memorial Hospital shortly after 6 p.m Sunday.

Police received a 911 call about a shooting, and officers found Gibson in his apartment with a gunshot wound to the head, said Salem police Sgt. D.R. Divers.

Divers said the case remained under investigation, but detectives thought the shooting was accidental. He said two guns were recovered from the apartment, but he would not say what type. Nor would he release other details about the case.

Gibson was in the hospital's neuro-intensive unit Monday afternoon, a nursing supervisor said.
