A LOOK AT LAKE'S GEOLOGY

A 1 1/2-hour illustrated program on the geologic history of Claytor Lake's rock formations, soils and landscapes will be presented at 2 p.m. today at Claytor Lake State Park. Admission is free.

It will be led by geologists Bill Henika, with the state Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy, and Terri Brown, coordinator of the Virginia Karst Program for the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

The presentation of slides will be followed by a guided science tour along the New River cliffs and the karst terrain - areas characterized by internal drainage, sinkholes and underlying caves.

The program coincides with the Fall River Renaissance, a statewide program to encourage stewardship of Virginia water resources, at Claytor Lake and elsewhere.

People interested in attending the program should come to park headquarters and wear hiking shoes. Further information is available by calling the Fall River Renaissance event line at (800) 592-5482.
