Ecology lecture

William H. Gumprecht will speak on ``The Development of CFC Alternatives'' on Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Roanoke College's Massengill Auditorium on Market Street.

Gumprecht recently retired from the DuPont Co. after almost 40 years as a research chemist. During his career, he received 18 U.S. patents.

The lecture is part of the Dr. Charles H. Fisher Lecture Series and is free and open to the public.

Play auditions

Auditions for Playmakers & Co.'s production of ``Steel Magnolias'' will be held Dec. 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. at Playmakers Playhouse in University Mall, Blacksburg.

No prepared reading is necessary.

If necessary, callbacks will take place Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

Scripts will be available at the Blacksburg and Christiansburg libraries beginning Dec. 1.

Ticket plan

Mill Mountain Theatre is celebrating the spirit of the season by introducing the ``Tiny Tim Ticket'' program to bring live theater to children and their families who might not otherwise be able to attend.

Businesses, organizations, clubs and individuals are invited to buy blocks of four or more tickets to selected performances of ``A Christmas Carol,'' playing on the Main Stage Dec. 6-29. The tickets will be offered to social agencies for distribution to families throughout the valley.

Blocks of tickets are offered at these prices: four tickets, $72; eight tickets, $168; 10 tickets, $210; 12 tickets, $252; 15 tickets, $315.

``Tiny Tim'' tickets are for performances Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday evenings and Saturday and Sunday matinees.

Ticket sales will end Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. Unless otherwise specified, those purchasing blocks of tickets will be given recognition by the theater. Recipients of the tickets will remain anonymous.
