MAN, 22, TURNS HIMSELF IN, IS CHARGED IN SHOOTING

A Roanoke man was arrested in connection with a shooting Thursday night in Northwest after turning himself in to police Friday afternoon.

Thaddeus Lee Ross, 22, of Mountain View Terrace Southwest has been charged with attempted robbery, malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, police said.

Ross was being held in the Roanoke Jail without bond Friday night, a deputy said.

Police responded to a shooting call about 6:20 p.m. and found Clarence N. Patterson, 22, of 10th Street Northwest, on the ground outside the Hunt Manor apartments in the 800 block of Hunt Avenue. He was shot in the right hip when two men confronted him after he left an apartment building, police said.

As the two men, who were wearing ski masks, approached, one asked Patterson, "Where is the stuff?" and both started shooting when Patterson denied having anything, police said. Despite the masks, one of the men was recognized during the attack.

Another man, who knows Patterson, was pulled from his parked car and searched by one of the men. He got back in his car and drove away when the shooting started and Patterson fell. It is unclear if Patterson and the man in the car were at Hunt Manor together, police said.

Patterson was admitted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said. Hospital personnel would not comment.

Police made no other arrests in the case Friday.
