CELEBRATIONS - ANNIVERSARIES

Church anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Isaac S. Church celebrated their 50th anniversary on January 2, 1997. The couple was married January 2, 1947 in South Carolina. She's the former Marie D. Spears. Their children are Ed Church of Roanoke and Charlotte Brooks of Roanoke. They have one grandchild, Michael D. Church and one son-in-law, David W. Brooks. Mr. Church is retired from Kroger.

Doss anniversary

Jasper and Genevieve Doss celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on December 29, 1996. The celebration, hosted by their children Donna and Neil Littreal, Vickie and Charles Clegg, and Terry and Janet Doss, was held at the home of Donna and Neil Littreal.

They were married December 28, 1946 in New Castle Christian Church. In addition to their 3 children, they have 4 grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Doss are long time members of First Christian Church, Roanoke.

Pamperl anniversary

Ronald and Dorothy Jean Pamperl celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on December 24, 1996 . A celebration, hosted by their children, was held at Hotel Roanoke.

The couple were married by the Rev. Schuler on December 24, 1946 in Moberly, Missouri, where they lived before moving to Roanoke in 1967. They have a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Wayne and Sandra Kay Pamperl of Leavenworth, Ks., and a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Jean and Calvert Churn of Kingsport, Tenn., also have a granddaughter, Ashley E. Churn and a grandson, Curtis Churn.

Mrs. Pamperl, the former Dorothy Jean Twyman, is a homemaker. Mr. Pamperl is retired from Norfolk Southern Corporation. They are members of West Hampton Christian Church, the Masonic Lodge of Columbia, Mo., and are also members of numerous Engineering organizations.

Stanley anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Roy R. Stanley celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary by renewing their wedding vows amidst family and friends on Demember 22, 1996 at the Vinton War Memorial. The Rev. Larry Eenigenburg of Calvary Memorial Church officiated the ceremony. A reception followed, hosted by their three daughters and sons-in -law, Linda and Dicky Trent, Brenda and Mike Saunders, Debbie and Mike Arnold.

Roy and Lillian were married 50 years ago, on Friday, December 23, 1946 by the Rev. Elmer Leiphart in the home of Roy's parents, the late Doc and Bessie Stanley. Roy is a native of Roanoke. He is retired from Spector-Red Ball Freight Lines, and currently works part-time at Shepherd's Auto Parts. Lillian is the daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Sprinkle of Botetourt County. She is retired from Eli Lilly after 31 years of service.

Helping celebrate this special day were their five grandchildren, Phil Saunders and wife Carol, Willie Trent and wife Becky, Chris Saunders, Robbie Trent, and Michelle Arnold; and two great-grandchildren, Mark and Maria Saunders.

After the reception, Roy and Lillian spent the night at Hotel Roanoke, fulfilling a dream of 50 years ago. We would like to thank everyone who attended for helping to make this a very special day for our parents. ``We love you Nana and Papa''.

Wheeling anniversary

Neville Edward Wheeling and Barbara Ann Tinsley were married January 5, 1957. They eloped to a small town in S.C. In honor of their 40th anniversary we would like to wish our parents many more happy and healthy years together. Thanks for all the wonderful memories and support through the years. We love you Mom and Dad! Daughter and son, Vicki and Dennis; grandkids Kelli and Scott.
