KIRK, Clyde F., (``Bill""), 86, of Christiansburg, died Wednesday, January 8, 1997. By now, he has completed his trip to meet his Saviour. We, his family, will miss him and will always love him. Last Friday, January 3rd, I wrote the following, which is: My Mother, sisters, brother and my brother-in-law, Elwood Cox, Pastor Jerry Gibson and his wife, Shelby, and I are in the ICU/CCU waiting room. Just a few minutes ago I visited with Daddy who is suffering so. There is a lot of sadness and tears present. I feel the time is near for Daddy to take his trip to meet his Saviour. His trip will be an eventful one which I know will take him one more time over his beloved mountains of Montgomery County where he grew up and where he and Mama had their first home, which is a still standing log cabin that is used now by hunters. During his trip he is certain to pass over the mountains and valleys of Giles County which we have spent much time together over the years. There are many fond memories of having fellowship at deer camp and hunting. As he passes over Giles the deer will stand at attention for a moment of silence in respect. Daddy thinned their numbers over the years. My, what a keen sense of nature Daddy had. Not much went by his eyesight and hearing in the woods. My thoughts are on his caring and love for Mama, which he lately calls ``baby"", and his children. He was, and at present is, a great provider for his family. What leadership he has provided. He just wasn't satisfied until the smokehouse was full of meat and the cellar had plenty of canned food. His work ethic has been one which should be honored. When I was growing up he was always up before daylight to milk the cow and feed the hogs, then be at his job by 7 a.m. to perform maintenance work for the Montgomery County Schools. We always had supper at 4:30 p.m.; then immediately he, my deceased brother Charles, and I were out to work the garden, get up hay or whatever had to be done. Daddy had a good sense of responsibility and caring for his friends and neighbors. If they needed help, he would be there. Though not a big man, Daddy seemed to just receive respect from his fellow man. He has been a ``teacher of teachers"" for me. When he dies I will continue to think of him often and seek his widsom. I better do good and well or he will let me know about it in his and the Lord's way. His ``baby"" (Louellen) is now 79 years old and he is 86. They have been m arried 65 years. He and Mama's living children are Joe Kirk of Radford, Juanita Harvey and her husband, George, also of Radford, Mary Sutphin of Christiansburg, Sally Cox and husband Elwood of Christiansburg, as well, Barbara Shelburne and husband John of Callaway and myself of Moneta. There are two deceased children. Daddy has an older brother, Jack; nineteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. Jerry Gibson gave a prayer a few minutes ago and had to leave. As always, Jerry has been there in times of need. Dr. Yoder is such a caring and sensitive person, I am glad Daddy is under his and God's care. Love, your son, Gerald. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 11, at the Gethsemane Baptist Church, Radford, conducted by Pastor Jerry Gibson, with burial to follow in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Clyde F. Kirk Nursing Scholarship Fund, C/O Radford University Foundation, Inc., P. O. Box 6915, Radford, Va. 24142.
