FREE THROWS HELP FLEMING PREVAIL

Brad Dunleavy scored 15 points Tuesday night to lead William Fleming to a 64-54 victory over E.C. Glass in a non-district game in Lynchburg.

The Colonels (8-3) made 10 of 14 free throws in the final three minutes to ice the victory.

Percy Pannell contributed 12 points and Richard Wilson added 10 for Fleming.

E.C. Glass (4-8) got within seven points near the end of the game, but Fleming's success at the free-throw line repelled the uprising.

Marshall Rumney led the Hilltoppers with 14 points.

GW-Danville 107, Patrick Henry 78: The Eagles ran away early and downed the Patriots in a non-district game that matched two ranked teams in Danville.

GW-Danville, No. 4 in Group AAA, began the game with a 9-2 run and began the second quarter with a 16-2 run.

Boo Battle tried to keep No. 10 Patrick Henry in it, making 12 of his 14 shots for 27 points, but the Eagles had many more weapons.

Charles Stevens led GW-Danville (12-1) with 19 points and four other players scored in double figures. Reserve Uri Crews contributed 17 points, all in the fourth quarter.

Ronnie Kasey had 19 points, five assists and three rebounds for Patrick Henry (10-2).

Roanoke Catholic 63, Lynchburg Christian 62: Aki Al-Zubaidi made one of two free throws with three seconds left to lift the Celtics over the Bulldogs in Lynchburg.

Lynchburg Christian had tied the score at 62-62 with four seconds left, but Al-Zubaidi was fouled in the backcourt.

The Celtics were up by 10 points with 41/2 minutes left, but Josh Locy rallied the Bulldogs (5-7 overall, 4-3 VIC) with two 3-pointers.

Terron Reed had 21 to lead Roanoke Catholic (4-8, 3-1). Brendan McCarthy had 16, Al-Zubaidi 13 and Chad Wall 12.

Roanoke Valley Christian 58, North Cross 49: Brad Hutchins scored 33 points as the visiting Eagles pulled away from the Raiders in a Virginia Independent Conference matchup.

Brandon LaCroix, David Foster and Michael Stoeckle each had 12 for North Cross (3-5 overall, 2-3 VIC).

Roanoke Valley Christian improved to 10-4 overall, 6-2 in the VIC.

Girls

Roanoke Valley Christian 62, North Cross 38: Rebecca Bryant had 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Eagles to a Blue Ridge Conference victory over the Raiders.

Gina Guthrie, a sophomore, had 15 points to top 1,000 for her career. Guthrie now has 1,010. She has been playing on the varsity team since the eighth grade.

Roanoke Valley Christian (13-4, 5-1) led 37-12 at halftime.

North Cross got 13 points from Michelle Hamilton.

Roanoke Catholic 48, Hargrave Military 20: Christy Hinman scored 23 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and had eight steals to lead the Celtics to the Blue Ridge Conference victory at Chatham.

The Tigers stayed close for a while as the game was tied with two minutes remaining in the first period. Hinman then began to find the range, and Catholic pulled out to a 22-10 halftime lead and never looked back.

William Fleming 50, E.C. Glass 19: Shaunarey Walker had 16 points and Tonia Brown scored 13 as the Colonels won their fourth straight game in a non-district contest.

Fleming (8-3) held the Hilltoppers to single digits in all four quarters, and allowed only eight second-half points. Revonda Barber had eight assists for the Colonels.

Glass fell to 3-7.

George Washington 60, Patrick Henry 33: Sophomore Tanisha Durham led the Patriots (3-8) with 13 points.
