ROCKBRIDGE REVERSES ALLEGHANY

Point Guard Ricky Wright helped lead a second-half turnaround as Rockbridge County rallied for a 72-59 victory over Alleghany on Friday night in a Blue Ridge District boys' game in Lexington.

The Wildcats (3-8 overall, 3-3 district) trailed 33-24 at halftime, but came out of the locker room with the intensity they lacked in the first half, scoring 24 points in the third and fourth quarters.

Wright scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half and James Hines had eight of his 13 points in the third quarter to lead the Rockbridge County charge. Jonathan Haston added 14 points and Jason Hannah contributed 13.

Travis Davis led the Mountaineers (3-11, 1-6)with 23 points and Casey Burks added 16.

Staunton River 49, Brookville 38: The Golden Eagles' defense put the clamps on the Bees in the second and third quarters as Staunton River rolled to a Seminole District victory in Lynchburg.

After trailing 11-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Golden Eagles (5-9, 2-4) held Brookville to six points in each of the next two periods to take a 34-23 lead.

Chris Martin scored 12 points and Steve Martin had 10 for Staunton River. John Gordon led Brookville (2-12, 0-6) with 10 points.

James River 73, Covington 63: Phillip Meador led the Knights on a second-quarter surge as James River topped the Cougars in a Pioneer District game in Buchanan.

Meador, who led the Knights with 18 points, scored eight in the second quarter as James River outscored Covington 24-11 to take a 31-23 lead.

Travis Blankenship scored 17 points and Tommy Blankenship added 13 for the Knights (5-7, 1-1).

Tracey Walker had 24 points for the Cougars (5-7, 2-1).

Pocahontas 62, Rocky Gap 51: David Murphy had 22 points to lead three scorers in double figures as the Indians turned back the Eagles in Rocky Gap to win their first game.

Barry Thompson scored 16 points and Randy Shupe added 12 for Pocahontas (1-7, 1-5), which trailed 25-24 at intermission but outscored Rocky Gap 39-26 in the second half. Shupe had eight of his points in the final period of the Mountain Empire District game.

Matthew Akers led all scorers with 27 points for the Eagles (3-10, 1-6), and J.R. Hutzel grabbed eight rebounds.

Carlisle 84, Lynwood Christian 71: Brandon Page scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Chiefs to a non-district victory in Martinsville.

Page, a freshman, scored 10 of his points in the fourth quarter as Carlisle pulled away. Marty Stanley added 21 points for the Chiefs, who trailed by three at the break.

Vincent Gravely led Lynwood Christian with 23 points.
