TERRIERS STOP KNIGHTS 50-47

Mayo Wilson made a 3-pointer and a driving layup to tie the score early in the third quarter, and William Byrd recovered from a slow start to defeat visiting Cave Spring 50-47 in a non-district matchup.

Kevin Stump paced the Terriers (11-4) with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Wilson finished with 10 points.

Ricky Dierker scored 16 points for Cave Spring (10-5) and Alex Phillips added 13 and pulled down five rebounds.

Huntington East (W.Va.) 70, Cave Spring 53: The Knights couldn't overcome poor shooting from the field and the line in a non-district loss in Huntington, W.Va.

Huntington East, ranked first in West Virginia, held a 23-12 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in avenging a loss on the Knights' home court. Cave Spring trailed by 18 at the half and shot just 35 percent from the floor.

Lindsay Cannon scored 13 points to pace the Knights (13-2).

Trina Williams scored 17 points to pace four Pulaski players in double figures. Lisa Skeens had 15 points for the Cougars (11-1, 3-0), and Robin Bower and Sarah Donald each scored 11.

Shaunarey Walker led Fleming (8-5, 2-2) with 21 points.

Christiansburg 46, Rockbridge County 43: Don Haga completed a three-point play with nine seconds left Saturday as Christiansburg rallied in the final minute to turn back Rockbridge County 46-43 in a Blue Ridge District game in Christiansburg.

Eric Lucas led the Demons (9-4, 4-3) with 22 points. Lucas hit a 3-point goal to tie the game in the final minute to set up Haga's heroics.

Ricky Wright led Rockbridge County (3-9, 3-4) with 17 points.

Shawsville's Simon Jones led all scorers with 20 points. Chris Graham and Linden Ryan each added 10 for the visitors.

Laurel Park 50, Patrick County 46: The Lancers placed three players in double figures and bottled up the district's leading scorer for three quarters to post a Piedmont District win over the Cougars in Martinsville.

Jeff Slade led Laurel Park (10-4, 2-3) with 14 points, Eric Jones scored 13 and Corey Flood recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lancers built a 12-point lead late in the third quarter before Slade went to the bench with his fourth foul. Patrick County (6-7, 1-3) narrowed the margin to three on the strength of Corey Reynolds, who scored all the Cougars' 15 fourth-quarter points. Reynolds, the Piedmont's leading scorer at 30 points per game, had been held to just seven through the first 24 minutes of play by Lancers guard Josh Crabtree.
