TERRIERS STOP KNIGHTS 50-47

Mayo Wilson made a 3-pointer and a driving layup to tie the score early in the third quarter, and William Byrd recovered from a slow start to defeat visiting Cave Spring 50-47 in a non-district matchup.

Kevin Stump paced the Terriers (11-4) with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Wilson finished with 10 points.

Ricky Dierker scored 16 points for Cave Spring (10-5) and Alex Phillips added 13 and pulled down five rebounds.

In other games:

Patrick Henry 85, Franklin County 66: Boo Battle scored 28 points as the Patriots beat the Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District game in Rocky Mount.

Ronnie Kasey added 18 points, Colby Leftwich 16 and Malik Shareef 10 for Patrick Henry (10-4, 2-1).

Henry Eggleston led Franklin County (4-11, 0-4) with 19 points.

Parry McCluer 86, Craig County 44: Damion Beverly scored 21 points as the Fighting blues routed the Rockets in a Pioneer District game in Buena Vista.

Chad Coffey chipped in 13 points, David Coleman added 11 and Mike Clark scored 10 for Parry McCluer (14-0, 4-0).

Dwayne Crawford paced the Rockets (1-7, 0-3) with 18 points and Jarvis Bailey added 10.

Girls

Huntington East (W.Va.) 70, Cave Spring 53: The Knights couldn't overcome poor shooting from the field and the line in a non-district loss in Huntington, W.Va.

Huntington East, ranked first in West Virginia, held a 23-12 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in avenging a loss on the Knights' home court. Cave Spring trailed by 18 at the half and shot just 35 percent from the floor.

Lindsay Cannon scored 13 points to pace the Knights (13-2).

Pulaski County 66, William Fleming 56: The Cougars used a balanced attack and tenacious defense to remain unbeaten atop the Roanoke Valley District with a victory over the Colonels in Dublin.

Trina Williams scored 17 points to pace four Pulaski players in double figures. Lisa Skeens had 15 points for the Cougars (11-1, 3-0), and Robin Bower and Sarah Donald each scored 11.

Shaunarey Walker led Fleming (8-5, 2-2) with 21 points.

Franklin County 59, Patrick Henry 21: The Eagles' press set the tone in a 14-4 first quarter, and Franklin County went on to an easy Roanoke Valley District victory over the Patriots in Rocky Mount.

Tasha Williams led Franklin County (5-8, 1-3) with 15 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

Takeeda Hale scored 11 points for PH (3-9, 0-2).
