Atkins-Whitelock

Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Atkins, Jr. of Elliston, VA are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Marie Atkins to Kevin Paul Whitelock of Burlington, WA. Melissa is a graduate of Shawsville High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. She is currently employed by Richfield Nursing Center and the U.S. Naval Reserves as a Hospital Corpsman.

Kevin is the son of Ms. Lorna Whitelock of Burlington, WA and Mr. Steven P. Whitelock of Mount Vernon, WA. He is a graduate of Burlington-Edison High School and is currently employed by the U.S. Navy on board the USS Nimitz (CVN 68) as an Aviation Electronics Technician.

A late fall 1997 wedding in Washington state is planned.

Beale-Privette

Robin Annette Beale and Terry Scott Privette are engaged and planning to be married on July 5, 1997 in VA Beach. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond L. Beale of Rocky Mount, N.C., formerly of Roanoke, VA, and the granddaughter of Mrs. John S. Hunt of Lynchburg, VA and the late Mr. John S. Hunt and Mr. and Mrs. Norris H. Beale. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. Privette of Liberty, N.C., and the grandson of Mrs. Julia B. Gillis of Fayetteville, N.C. and the late Mr. Davis F. Privette and Mr. and Mrs. Roney W. Allen.

Burkholder-Blatz

The parents of Angie Burkholder wish to announce the engagement of their daughter to John Blatz. She is the daughter of JoAnn Burkholder-Creasy and Gary Creasy of Troutville and George Burkholder of Roanoke. She graduated from Cave Spring High School and is attending George Mason University. He is the son of Mr. Bruce Blatz of Kailua, HI. and Mrs. Cherie Smith of Saugus, CA. He graduated from Konawagna High School and is attending Northern Virginia Community College. The wedding will take place March 22 in Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in Roanoke.

Clark-Evans

Karen Diann Clark and Sidney Darnell Evans are engaged and planning to be married on May 3, 1997 in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert W. Clark of Roanoke. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Evans of Montgomery, Alabama. Miss Clark is the granddaughter of Mrs. Virginia Waddell of Roanoke, and the late Mr. Willie R. Waddell, and Mrs. Elsie Clark of Bladensburg, Maryland, formerly of Roanoke, and the late Mr. Edward Clark. She graduated from William Fleming High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, Ala., and Troy State University, Troy, Alabama. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and he is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The wedding will be held at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, followed by a dinner reception.

Fariss-Edwards

Mr. and Mrs. Michael H. Fariss are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Angela Michele, to Matthew Stephens Edwards, son of Mrs. Judy E. Edwards and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence S. Edwards, all of Roanoke. Miss Fariss is the granddaughter of Mrs. J. Russell Cronk and the late Mr. Cronk, and Mr. and Mrs. E. Harold Fariss, all of Roanoke.

Miss Fariss is a 1993 graduate of the University of Virginia and is a second year medical student at the James H. Quillan College of Medicine, ETSU, Johnson City, Tennessee.

Mr. Edwards, a 1991 graduate of the University of Virginia, received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1994. He is a surgical resident at Baptist Hospital of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C.

Both Miss Fariss and Mr. Edwards graduated from Cave Spring High School in 1989 and 1987 respectively.

The wedding is planned for August 23, 1997 at Cave Spring United Methodist Church.

Gross-Dooley

Terena Michelle Gross of Vinton, and Jeffrey Scott Dooley of Stewartsville have announced their engagement. Gross is the daughter of Jean Jenkins and Henry Gross of Vinton. She is a graduate of William Byrd and is employed at Berkshire Nursing Home.

Dooley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Dooley of Stewartsville. He is a graduate of Staunton River, and is employed at Chamblissburg Supply.

The couple plans to be married on September 20.

Hall-Jansen

Suzette Renee Hall and Jeffrey Karl Jansen are engaged and planning to be married in October 1997. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Hall, Jr. of Roanoke, Va. She was graduated in 1991 from Patrick Henry High School and is employed by South Roanoke Nursing Home. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Jansen of Kuakuana, Wisconsin. He graduated from Kuakuana High School and is employed by DBA Builders of Roanoke.

Lee-Stacey

Wallace B. and Loraina M. Lee along with Danielle and Chrystal Lee are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter and Danielle and Chrystal's mother, Cheri Ligeia Lee of Smith Mountain Lake to Danny Wayne Stacey, father of Danielle and Chrystal. Danny is the son of Rob and Sherrie D. Waldron of Roanoke.

The wedding is planned for mid-April, 1997. The ceremony will be performed under the beautiful formosa tree at the home of the bride's aunt, who will perform the ceremony, Rev. Clara Hall of Salem. A reception will follow. After the honeymoon, the couple will reside with their 2 daughters on Smith Mountain Lake.

Lester-Kiser

Kelly R. Lester and Richard W. Kiser, Jr. are engaged and planning to be married on April 19, 1997 in Vinton. She is a daughter of Mrs. Shirley P. Lester of Vinton and the late Bobby R. Lester of Salem. She graduated from William Byrd High School and Roanoke College, and is employed by Central Fidelity National Bank. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard W. Kiser of Salem. He graduated from Salem High School and attended Southeastern College in Florida, and is currently attending Virginia Western Community College. He is employed by Briggs Office Environments.

Newman-Backer

Conni Newman of Mesa, Arizona, and Alan Backer of Roanoke announce their engagement. Conni is the daughter of Fred E. Bryan and the late Judith Irene Bryan of Mesa, Ariz. Alan is the son of Ralph and Pauline Backer of Mesa, Ariz. A spring wedding in Arizona is planned.

Nickens-Wolter

Dr. and Mrs. Harry C. Nickens of Vinton are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Cassidee Rachell, to Andrew John Wolter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Wolter of Waterloo, Iowa. Cassidee, a graduate of Virginia Tech, is employed by Virginia Beach Public Schools and is pursuing a Masters Degree at Old Dominion University. Andy, a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, is a graduate of Iowa State University and is pursuing a Masters in Business Administration at the College of William and Mary. Christina D. Peggins and Michael W. Bradley are engaged and planning to be married on October 4, 1997, in New Castle, Va. Christina is the daughter of Joyce Godfryt of Troutville, Va., and James K. Peggins of Roanoke, Va. Michael is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bradley of New Castle, Va.

Christina graduated from William Byrd High School and is employed by Member One Federal Credit Union in Roanoke, Va.

Michael is a graduate of Virginia Tech and is employed by Yokohama Tire Corp. in Salem, Va.

Reedy-Robson

Amy M. Reedy and Wyndom R. Robson are engaged and planning to marry on September 20, 1997. Amy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry J. Reedy of Riner, VA. Wyndom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald R. Robson of Roanoke, VA.

Rodhe-Urquhart

Debra Kay Rodhe and John Hewitt Urquhart are engaged and planning to be married o n June 14, 1997 in Roanoke. She is a daughter of Mr. Harmon Roger Rodhe of Painsville, Ohio and the late Mrs. Georgia Lou Bay of Roanoke. She is employed by Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter Urquhart, Jr. of Roanoke. He is employed by Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

The wedding will be held in the chapel of Calvary Baptist Church

Semones-Whitlow

Sophia Elizabeth Semones and Ervin Whitlow II (``Buck'') are engaged and planning to be married on October 4, 1997 in Salem. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard M. Semones of Salem. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Whitlow of Salem.

Shannon-Howdyshell

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shannon, of Hardy, Va., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Traci Ann Shannon to Mr. Michael Arthur Howdyshell. He is the son of Mrs. Dorothy Howdyshell, of Ocala, Fla., and the late Mr. Glenn Howdyshell.

Traci is a student at Hollins College, Roanoke, Va., majoring in Economics and Business. She is employed by Valley Construction News. Michael is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tenn., with a BA in History. He is employed by Branch and Associates as a Project Manager.

A Fall wedding is planned.

Smith-Treece

Mr. and Mrs. Donald George Smith are pleased to announce the eng agement of their daughter, Barbara Christine, to Matthew David Treece. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Wayne Treece of North Salem, Indiana.

Christy is completing her final semester at Indiana University where she will receive a Master of Fine Arts in Acting.

Matthew is finishing a Bachelor of Arts degree at Indiana University, and he will be commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force.

The wedding is planned for May seventeenth
