NORTHSIDE WINS IN 3-OT AFFAIR

Northside and Lord Botetourt engaged in a boys' game Wednesday night that nearly left all the coaches involved speechless. And for good reason.

The Vikings came from 21 points down in the third quarter behind an awesome 3-point shooting display to beat the visiting Cavaliers 97-91 in triple overtime. Northside (3-12 overall, 3-5 Blue Ridge District) made a run by hitting five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, two by Xavier Lee, two by James Bandy and one from Darrell Holmes.

Northside won it in the third overtime with Holmes opening things up with a 3-pointer. The Vikings pushed the lead to six, but true to the game's form, Lord Botetourt (9-5, 4-5) got within one.

Holmes and Bandy would not be denied, however. Bandy scored 15 of his team-high 28 points in the overtime periods and Holmes scored 12 of his 22 at the same time. Michael Yates scored a game-high 32 points - including six 3-pointers -for the Cavaliers, Jason Hunt had 20 and Sean Osborne had 18. The teams combined for 21 3-pointers.

Lord Botetourt led 34-19 at halftime.
