WOMAN DRIVING STOLEN CAR WRECKS, DIES

A Stafford County woman driving a stolen car on Interstate 95 was killed when she swerved into the path of one of the three police cars trying to stop her.

Jessica Sanders, 20, died instantly Tuesday about 11:30 p.m. after leading police on a four-mile chase, state police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said.

``They were able to slow her down to about 10 mph, and it appeared she was pulling over,'' Caldwell said. ``Then all of a sudden she put her foot on the gas, accelerated hard and veered sharply to left to get away. She pulled right into the path" of Stafford County Cpl. Scott Goins.

Sanders was driving a 1992 Geo Prizm that police said had been stolen from an Exxon station in Aquia. The car's owner said he had left his car running with the keys in it while he went inside to pay for his gas.

Goins and a passenger in the stolen car, Danell Harris, 18, were taken to hospitals and released.
