Baseball's return to the valley

For the first time in five years, Pulaski's historic Calfee Park will be home to minor-league baseball. The Texas Rangers will field a club there this summer, but how long will they stay?

If Pulaski can't keep a team, Radford would welcome the opportunity to have professional baseball for the first time since 1950, when the Radford Rockets and the Class D Blue Ridge League folded.

A Radford group is already exploring the possibility of getting a minor-league team in 1998, but many hurdles await, including a potential battle with another club over the Radford market. For details, see Sunday's Sports section of The Roanoke Times.
