Martin Bros. works on church addition

Martin Bros. Contractors Inc. of Roanoke said it has been awarded contracts for the $2 million, 18,000-square-foot addition to Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church on Grandin Road.

The project includes interior renovations to the existing church and upgrading the mechanical and electric systems.

The addition will include classrooms, a kitchen, a fellowship hall with half-court basketball court and stage, a new entrance and an elevator.

Also, Martin Bros. will build a $1.5 million facility for Cummins Atlantic in the Simmons Industrial Park at Daleville. The 27,700-square-foot pre-engineered metal building will be used for truck repairs and parts sales.

Avis awarded four projects

Avis Construction Co. of Roanoke has been awarded contracts for four projects, including a 99,000-square-foot addition to the Orvis Co. distribution center in Roanoke's Center for Industry and Technology. Rife and Wood Architects of Roanoke is providing architectural services for Orvis.

Avis is also constructing a 66,350-square-foot shell building in Vista Corporate Park in Botetourt County for the Industrial Development Authority of Botetourt County. Avis teamed in the project with Craighead & Associates for architectural services and with Mattern & Craig for civil engineering services.

The other two projects are both for Norfolk Southern Corp. - a 17,000-square-foot diesel shop addition at the company's East End Shops and a 9,000-square-foot addition to a railroad facility on Kimball Avenue.

Bankruptcies

Eight bankruptcies with business affiliations have been filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Western Virginia at Roanoke. Three of them are personal bankruptcies that the court listed as businesses because they have commercial connections and could be of interest to business creditors and customers.

*Together of Roanoke Inc., a franchise dating service in Roanoke, filed for liquidation. The company estimated both assets and liabilities at more than $100,000.

*John J. Byron and Claire Byron of Roanoke filed for liquidation, estimating both assets and liabilities at more than $100,000. They are, respectively, president and vice president of Together of Roanoke Inc.

*PEO Solutions Ltd. of Roanoke, a leasing company, filed for liquidation. The company estimated assets at more than $500,000 and liabilities at between $100,000 and $499,000.

*Navaro Mining Inc. of Tazewell County filed for reorganization and protection from creditors. It had assets of $506,734 and liabilities of $552,760.

*Kelly Page Clark of Radford, who does business as Page One Media Services, filed for liquidation with assets of $2,908 and liabilities of $24,364.

*Keevin Dale Prater and Virginia Smith Prater of Marion filed for liquidation with assets of $73,350 and liabilities of $121,654. They operate a game room.

*Garry Boothe and Denise Boothe of Boones Mill filed for liquidation with assets of $17,154 and liabilities of $43,603. Garry Boothe is a subcontractor.

*Davey Allen Looney of Cedar Bluff filed for liquidation with assets of $112,420 and liabilities of $112,480. He has an interest in Looney Bail Bond Inc.
