STANLEY NAMES PLANT MANAGER

BOB SITLER has been promoted to plant manager of Stanley Furniture Co.'s table, chair and high-tech production facilities in Stanleytown.

He joined Stanley in 1985 as a credit representative, was later promoted to regional credit manager, was named a senior project engineer in manufacturing production in 1992 and has held several supervisory positions since then.

Besides the Stanleytown facilities, Stanley has plants in Robbinsville, Lexington and West End, N.C.

ADVERTISING

JOAN RAMSAY-JOHNSON has been hired as art director with The Robert Claiborne Agency in Roanoke. She comes to the agency from Arnold Finnegan Martin Advertising in Richmond where she was finished art manager. In her new position, she will be responsible for art direction, design and production. SELENA STRICKLER has joined Robert Claiborne as a graphic designer. She previously was a free-lance graphic designer for various advertising agencies in the Roanoke area. TRACI KAUFFMAN has been named the agency's office manager. She previously worked for The Maddox Agency in Roanoke.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

DOROTHY GILLESPIE of New York has been named distinguished professor of art at Radford University, where she will conduct seminars and be an adviser on the business and other aspects of art. The former Roanoke artist will also work with students, producing art and organizing events and projects.

ENGINEERS

JAMES F. KINDER JR. has joined Day-Williams Consulting Engineers. The Roanoke-based firm provides structural and civil engineering services throughout the mid-Atlantic states. Kinder is a professional engineer in Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

HEALTH CARE

DR. ANNETTE FROE-HLICH has joined Drs. Blum, Newman, Blackstock & Associates Optometrists and will be working in the Lynchburg and Lexington offices. Froehlich, who is certified in diagnostics and therapeutics, will be specializing in the care and treatment of eye injuries and disease as well as providing basic vision correction services.

HOSPITALITY

ROBERT HAYES has been hired as sales manager by the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center, where he will oversee the association market. The Roanoke native, who has more than 10 years of corporate hotel experience, returns from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., where he was a sales manager in charge of developing corporate, association and tourism business for the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club. Before that, he was a sales manager for Sugar Bay Plantation Resort in St. Thomas.

MANUFACTURING

RICKI D. CARRUTH has been promoted to public affairs manager for Westvaco Corp.'s Covington Mill. She succeeds ROBERT G. CROCKETT, who has been promoted to the new position of regional public affairs manager. He will join the corporate public affairs staff based in Richmond. Carruth, who currently coordinates internal communications for Westvaco's mill in North Charleston, S.C., will assume her new position March1.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

DONNA DILLEY has been appointed director of the Corporate Cotillion program in Roanoke by the International League of Corporate Cotillions based in Charlotte, N.C. Dilley will teach a comprehensive program of business and social etiquette, including transportation etiquette, conversation and behavior in the workplace, business correspondence, telephone etiquette, table manners, professional grooming and international protocol.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

CHRIS C. FOSTER has been promoted to vice president-finance of R&B Communications of Daleville. Foster joined the company in 1984, was assistant secretary from 1987 to 1995, and has been secretary-treasurer since 1995. The diversified telecommunications company operates R & B Telephone, the Beeper Co., R&B Cable, R&B Internet, R&B Telecom and R&B Network.

TRANSPORTATION

At its recent election of officers and board members for 1997, the Virginia Road and Transportation Builders Association named KENNETH M. TAYLOR, vice president of W-L Construction & Paving Inc. in Chilhowie, its new president. MICHAEL M. BRANCH, vice president of Branch Highways Inc. in Roanoke, was elected secretary-treasurer. New board members include ALAN G. SOLTIS of Lanford Bros. Co., Roanoke, and GARY SUMMERS, Mitchell Distributing Co., Salem.
