POLICE ARREST MAN IN FATAL BANK ROBBERY

Authorities have made an arrest almost two weeks after a pair of robbers stormed into a NationsBank branch with guns blazing, killing a teller and wounding three others.

Jermaine Jerrell Sims, 21, was charged Wednesday with federal bank robbery, the FBI and Richmond police announced.

Police Chief Jerry Oliver said the search for a second suspect was continuing. Investigators have received 200 to 300 tips about the crime.

Teller Lori Ann Robinson, 23, was killed by a shot to the chest during the Jan. 30 holdup. Three others in the bank, including an armed guard, also were hit.

The men grabbed an undetermined amount of cash and tried to leave through the rear door by which they had entered. A policeman exchanged fire with the pair as they were leaving, and the robbers ran back inside and continued firing indiscriminately.

They ran out the front door, fired again at police officers, climbed a stone fence surrounding Richmond National Cemetery and fled through the headstones of Civil War soldiers.

At a news conference Wednesday at the scene of the robbery, officials described the evidence that resulted in Sims' arrest.
