A speaker from the Virginia Museum of Natural History in Martinsville will talk about recent discoveries in Saltville and elsewhere in Virginia by paleontologists at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Nicholas Fraser, the museum's curator of vertebrate paleontology, will describe key fossil sites in the state and explain their global significance.
His lecture will be at the Smyth-Bland Regional Library in Marion and is open to the public.
It is part of a quarterly lecture series sponsored by the Saltville-based Museum of the Middle Appalachians.
The museum project recently received $6,000 toward its realization from the Olin Corp. Charitable Trust, which operated a chemical production plant in Saltville until 1972.
"Olin's employees, past and present, are enthused about a museum in our region," said Lowell McAllister, Olin's Saltville site supervisor.
