AKERS, Blanche Myers, 90, of Christiansburg, passed away Saturday, April 5, 1997 at her home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 1997 at the Park United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Kelley and the Rev. Mark Christian, with burial in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad or to Park United Methodist Church. Friends may call anytime Monday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening and at all other times at the residence at 404 Park Street. AKERS, Emily Thompson, 86, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 5, 1997. She was retired from Roanoke City Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Akers. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Ann Akers and Les Brown of Roanoke; sons and daughters-in-law, Claude F. and Alaine Akers of Vinton, James Curtis Akers of Salem, and Richard T. and Patty Akers of Ohio; a sister, Ruth Fralin of Roanoke; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, L. C. and Hazel Akers, Floyd; 17 grandchildren, including Earnest and Vickey Brown, and Ronald E. and Lisa Brown. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Tuesday, April 8, 1997, at Lotz Roanoke Chapel, with the Rev. David R. Miller and the Rev. Paul Alwine officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the funeral home. ANDERSON, Irene F., 63, of Thaxton, passed away Saturday, April 5, 1997. She was born January 4, 1934 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Tommy Lee Anderson and Mary Roth Wade Anderson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Creasey. She is survived by a daughter a nd son-in-law, Peggy and Donnie Ruff, Thaxton; a granddaughter, Tracy Ruff; a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Denise; two sisters, Mary Ann Chaffin, Doris Krantz, both of Bedford; five brothers, Tommy Anderson, Roy Anderson, William Anderson, all of Thaxton, David Anderson, Bedford, Charles Anderson, Rocky Mount; a special friend, Irene Lantz, Montvale. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 8, 1997, at 11 a.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. Johnny Basham. Interment will follow in the Overstreet Family Cemetery. BONDS, Ezra Roscoe, 83, of Hiwassee, went to be with Jesus, Saturday, April 5, 1997, in a Roanoke h ospital. He was preceded in death by a son, Abraham Bonds. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Bonds, Snowville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dewayne and Linda Bonds, Riner, Kelley and Regina Bonds, Snowville, and James and Dot Bonds, Christiansburg; a son, Danny Bonds, Christiansburg; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Bonds, Snowville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and James McNeil, Check and Shirley and Turner DeHart, Pilot; a stepsister, Nobie Altizer, Snowville; and a stepbrother, Stant Phillips, Snowville; two half sisters, Helen Pelky, Snowville and Edna Buckner, Radford; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren also survive. BRADLEY, Mary Frances Hurt, 63, of Bedford, widow of Melvin Andrew (Jack) Bradley, died Saturday, April 5, 1997 at a local hospital. She was born June 29, 1933 in Bedford, Va., a daughter of the late Allen Monroe (Pete) Hurt and Gracie Wilson Hurt. She is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gracie H. B. and Norval Boone, Bedford, Dorothy H. and James A. Bradley, Vinton; a brother and sister-in-law, James M. and Bessie O'Neil Hurt, Roanoke; 13 nieces and nephews; 19 great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-nephew. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, with graveside memorial services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 1997 at Wilson's United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. BURNEY, Robert V., 49, of Ocean Pines, Md., died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at his home. He was born in Ft. Pierce Fla., a son of Helen M. Burney of Ft. Pierce and the late Hewitt Burney. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Linda J. Burney; two children, Robert J. Burney and Lane Burney, both at home; a brother, Joseph Burney of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and two sisters, Lillian Strickland of Jacksonville, Fla., and Carolyn Hutchinson of Ft. Pierce. He had moved to Maryland three years ago from Roanoke, Va., and was parts manager at Barr International in Salisbury, Md. He and his family were avid outdoorsmen. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Atlantic United Methodist Church, with the Rev. George R. Patterson officiating. CASEY, Deborah Ann, 42, and CASEY, Sharon Yvette, 23, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 1997. Surviving Deborah Ann are one daughter, Felicia Brooks; two grandchildren, DaQuone Casey and Chante Casey; five brothers, Jerry Casey of Roanoke, Marvin Casey, Larry Casey and Samuel Casey, all of Baltimore, Md., and John Casey of Rochester, N.Y., and two sisters, Cherry Ann Banks of Baltimore and Regina Renee Tisdale of Texas. Surviving Sharon are one son, DaQuone Casey; one daughter, Chante Casey, and one sister, Felicia Brooks. Many other relatives survive this mother and daughter. Double funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with Dr. J. Eugene Young officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. CROFT, Martha Harris, 86, of Pearisburg, died Saturday afternoon, April 5, 1997, at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Croft was born on March 3, 1911 in Capitol Heights, Md. and was a daughter of the late Horatio Howell and Annie Maud Stewart Harris and was also preceded in death by her husband, La Vern Stables Croft, two young sons, three sisters, three brothers and several nephews. Mrs. Croft moved to Pearisburg in 1977 and joined the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg and has been a life-long member of the Methodist Church, was a member of the Anne S. Hoilman Sunday School Class, past member of the Pearisburg Women's Club, member of the Martha Washington Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, retired analyst from the Dept. of State in Washington, D.C. with 25 years of service. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gertrude and Harvey Gillespie of Pearisburg; one sister, Esther McGrew Cook of Pensacola, Fla.; three grandchildren, Harvey George Gillespie, III and wife, Diane of Virginia Beach, Stewart Gillespie and wife, Sherry, of Pearisburg, and Warren Gillespie of Pearisburg; and two great-grandchildren, Kavan and Katie Gillespie of Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, Va. on Tuesday, April 8, 1997 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Freddrick Long officiating, with burial to be held Wednesday, April 9, 1997, at the Ivy Hill Cemetery in Alexandria, Va. at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg, Va. DEVORE, Mary Jane, 92, of Christiansburg, passed away Saturday, April 5, 1997 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Leon Devore and one son, Ralph Leon Devore, Jr. She is survived by one son, Kenneth I. Devore, Christiansburg; one daughter, Norma Colley, Pauleys Island, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Lucille Devore of Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 1997, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Richard H. Horne, with burial in Sunset Cemetery. MASON, Nettie Hill, 83, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, April 6, 1997 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She was born March 6, 1914 in Rockbridge County, daughter of the late William Hill and Lucy Campbell Hill. She was retired from Bernson Silk Mill. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Mason, Jr. and a daughter, Barbara Johnson. She is survived by three daughters, Bet ty N. Slagle, Frances M. Fitchgerald and Jane Chittum, all of Buena Vista; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. MASON, Pauline R., 78, of Salem, died Sunday, April 6, 1997, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong Salem resident, and had been an active member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Mason. She is survived by two nephews, Dr. R. B. Goodwin and his wife, Joyce, and Eddie Peverall and his wife, Pattie, and two nieces, Martha Ann Kavanagh and her husband, Ken, and Pat Ashworth and her husband, Larry. NASH, Jesse Mack, 84, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 5, 1997. He was the husband of the late Carlotta Heck Nash and is survived by a son, Ronald M. Nash; daughter-in-law, Joyce Flippen Nash; and grandson, Armistead B. Nash of Richmond. He retired from the City of Roanoke in 1961, was a former partner in Sigmon Brothers, Inc., Realtors, and was a past Deacon of Virginia Heights Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Burial Park on Monday, April 7, 1997, at 11 a.m., with Dr. Daniel Sco tt officiating. POFF, Samuel Lewis, 83, of Bent Mountain, died Sunday, April 6, 1997. Mr. Poff was preceded in death by his wife, Berchie Bohon Poff. He is survived by four sisters, Velma Graham of Charlotte, N.C., Almeda Bohon of Bent Mountain, Ada Holliday of Nashville, Tenn., and Perdine Manning of Bent Mountain. Three stepdaughters and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Church, Copper Hill, ``Head of the River,"" with Elder Hale Terry and Elder Lane Carte r officiating. Burial will follow in Head of the River Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. Monday at Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd.

PRUNTY, Rev. Dr. Alfred Septemius, 71, of Roanoke, went to his eternal reward on Sunday, April 6, 1997 at the Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, Va. He was the son of the late Robert A. & Jennie L. Prunty. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Prunty and two brothers, James and Giles Prunty. He was retired from the Roanoke Veterans' Hospital as a Therapist. He was also Pastor of Slate Hill Baptist Church in Roanoke County and retired recently from that position. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Lucy Addison High School and furthered his education at Virginia Union University. Surviving his death are his daughter, Melissa Kemp and her son, Jesse; one sister, Dorothy Brown; one brother, John (Elnora) Prunty; other relatives and many friends. He was past president of the Baptist Ministers' Conference, served on the City Managers Task Force for Human Relations and was very active in religious, civic and community activities. STOOTS, Ralph Earl, 72, of Belspring, passed away Saturday, April 5, 1997 at Radford Community Hospital. He retired from Hercules Inc. with 32 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army in Europe for three years. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Margaret Mills Stoots, Belspring; son, Ralph Kenneth Stoots, Radford; daughter, Sandra Nelson, Radford; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Kenneth Roan of Dublin; mother, Faye Stoots Akers, Parrott; two sisters, Virginia Kesterson and Mae Howell, both of Parrott; brother, Robert Stoots, Parrott; three grandchildren, Shannon Nelson, Radford, Tracie and Matthew Roan of Dublin; one great-grandchild, Sean Nelson of Radford. TWEEDY, Louise Wine, 91, of Roanoke, died Sunday morning, April 6, 1997, in a local nursing home. Mrs. Tweedy was the widow of Thomas Alfred Tweedy. Surviving are four cousins, Mrs. William B. Ladd and Mrs. Curtis L. Lemon, both of Roanoke, Mrs. Lawrence Lindgren of Lexington, Ky., and Dr. Richard W. Dodd, Richmond. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the graveside in Evergreen Burial Park. The Rev. Robert D. Smith will officiate. Arrangements are by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
