Play chronicles life of Faulkner

John Maxwell, a professor from Oxford, Miss., will be performing his one-man play, "Oh, Mr. Faulkner, Do you write?" at Virginia Western Community College on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The play chronicles the life of Southern novelist William Faulkner.

The production will be held in Whitman Auditorium. Tickets are $8. Place reservations through the bookstore or by phone, 857-7334.

Dice Run set to help zoo

The Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Harley Owner's Group is sponsoring a Dice Run on April 27 to benefit Mill Mountain Zoo.

Registration will be held at the Roanoke Valley Harley-Davidson shop, 1925 Peters Creek Road N.W., at 11:30 a.m. The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. The entry fee is $5 and includes free admission to the zoo. All makes of motorcycles are welcome.

DMV offers mobile service in Salem

The Department of Motor Vehicles' Mobile Customer Service Center will be stationed at the Salem Farmer's Market, on the corner of West Main and North Broad streets Wednesday and April 17 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The mobile center offers most of the same services as a regular DMV office, such as driver licensing, registration and title services.

The DMV center will return to Salem at the same location and time on May 12 and June 16.

Roanoke County offers classes

Roanoke County Parks and Recreation is offering classes at the Brambleton Center.

``Waterfowl Carving Basics'' will cover carving techniques as students carve and finish a miniature goose or duck. This is a six-week program beginning with a five-hour class on April 19, and continuing on Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m.

``Critter Carving'' is a one-day carving course which will meet on May 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

``Financial Workshop for Individual Investors'' is a forum to discuss ways to manage investments, taxes and estates. There will be two sessions of this class, one meeting on Monday nights, and one on Tuesdays.

Red Cross needs volunteers

The Roanoke Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking both adult and youth volunteers.

Free training will be provided, and the hours are flexible.

Volunteers are particularly needed to assist with blood donations and to help local families.
