CELEBRATIONS - WEDDINGS

Arrington-Mayfield

Miss Lisa Dale Mayfield and Mr. Mark Allen Arrington were united in marriage on April 12, 1997 in First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Robert D. Smith was the officiating clergyman. The reception was held at Hunting Hills Country Club.

Mary E. Mann, friend, of Panama City Beach, Fla., served as maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Bonnie Hager of Boones Mill, Va., friend; Stacy Towe of Elkton, Va. and Courtney Mayfield of Grand Prairie, Texas, nieces of the bride. The Flower Girl was Brittany Harlow of Roanoke, Va., friend.

The Rev. Dr. H. Randolph Arrington served as his son's Best Man. The Ushers were Kenneth W. Herrman, brother-in-law, Luke A. Giannini and Joshua W. Giannini, nephews, all of Mechanicsville, Va. The Ring Bearers were Dana and Daniel Herrman, twin nephews of the groom. The guestbook was attended by Debbie Towe, sister of the bride, of Elkton, Va.

The Wedding Director was Mrs. Jenny Taubman and the Wedding Coordinator was Julie Smith. Greenway Florists served as floral director. Jordan Wade and Brian Mayfield, nephews of the bride, were the program attendants. Special music was provided by Mr. Robert Chapman. The soloist was Mrs. Pamela Seward.

The bride wore a chapel length gown of white bridal silk with imported Alencon lace delicately beaded with seed pearls. It featured a V'd neckline and long tapered sleeves. The fitted princess bodice with an a-line skirt that fell into a chapel length train was edged in beaded Alencon lace. Her two tiered cathedral length veil of illusion was accented with scattered pearls.

The bride is the daughter of Ms. Valeria Peggy Mayfield and Mr. Ellis Brant Mayfield, both of Roanoke. A graduate of Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, she attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., and is a business manager with a local company in Lynchburg.

The bridegroom is the son of The Rev. Dr. and Mrs. H. Randolph Arrington of Mechanicsville, Va. A graduate of Randolph Macon Academy, he attended Virginia Wesleyan College, and is currently apprenticing to become a chef.

The newlyweds will reside in Forest, Va., after the wedding trip to Acapulco, Mexico.

Cregger-Dowdy

Norma Bond Dowdy and Barton Bentley Cregger exchanged wedding vows on Friday, April 11, 1997, at Bethel Baptist Church in Salem, Virginia. Rev. Stuart Carlton performed the private ceremony.

The bride's father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Royal M. Bond of Radford, and the groom's father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Cregger of Botetourt attended the ceremony.

The bride and groom are employed by Medeco Security Locks, Inc.

After a short honeymoon to the Homestead, the couple will reside in Salem

Elkins-Wooten

Elizabeth McKellar Wooten of Chapel Hill, N.C. and John Watson Elkins of Glade Hill, Va. were married April 12, 1997 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. with The Rev. Lada Hardwick officiating. The reception was held at The Greenbrier.

The maid of honor was Miss Gretchen Moore Sullivan of Cary, N.C. The best man was John Watson Elkins, Jr. of Roanoke, Va., son of the groom.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Myers Wooten, Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C.

The groom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Watt Elkins of Roanoke, Va.

The bride and bridegroom are both antique dealers. Mr. Elkins is owner and president of John W. Elkins & Co. in Glade Hill, Va. and White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Mrs. Elkins is a partner in Wooten's Antiques in Fayetteville, N.C.

The newlyweds will live in Glade Hill, Va.

Fike-Bong

Wonae Bong and John Herschel Fike were married December 28, 1996 in the Germantown-Brick Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Bruce E. Huffman officiating. The reception was held in the church fellowship hall.

The matron of honor was Wonja Bong, sister of the bride. The bridesmaid was Haekyung Han, sister-in-law of the bride.

The best man was Herschel R. Fike, father of the groom. Ushers were Wonil Bong, brother of the bride, and Billy Bowman, friend of the groom.

Wedding music was provided by Gayle F. Brubaker, Susan F. Johnson, sisters of the groom, James Fike, brother of the groom, and Don Brubaker, brother-in-law of the groom. Scripture reading was given by aunt and uncle of the groom, Lois and Marvin Sherman.

The bride is the daughter of the late Tae Geun Bong and Sung Soon Jung of Seoul, Korea. She is a graduate of Korean University, Seoul, Korea, and is finishing her PhD in Soil Chemistry from VPI & SU, Blacksburg, Va.

The bridegroom is a son of Herschel R. and Shirley H. Fike of Rocky Mount, Va. He is a gradua te of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C., and VPI & SU, Blacksburg, Va. He is currently attending the University of Florida, Gainesville, pursuing his PhD in Dairy Science.

The newlyweds are residing in Gainesville, Florida.

Hayslett-Taylor

Jennifer JoAnn Taylor and Travis Brand Hayslett were married on March 15, 1997, in Penn Forest Wesleyan Church. Pastor Dave Vanderpool was the officiating clergyman. The reception was held at the church.

Melissa Roberts, sister-in-law of the bride, was the matron of honor. The maid of honor was Brandi Hayslett, sister of the groom. The bridesmaids were Hope Ward and April Wilkerson, friends.

Steve Hayslett, father of the groom, and Jacey Radford, uncle of the groom, were best men. The ushers were Jessie Roberts and John Taylor, brothers of the bride, Michael Huffman and Greg Horn, friends. The guestbook was attended by Shirley Fox. Flowergirl was Ashley Lovern. The ringbearer was Cole Hayslett.

The bride is the daughter of Darryl and Shirley Taylor of Roanoke. She is a graduate of Wm. Byrd High School.

The groom is the son of Steve and Kathy Hayslett of Vinton. He is a graduate of Wm. Byrd High School.

The newlyweds will live in Vinton.

Moses-Marven

Katherine Ann Marven and Robert Mark Moses were united in marriage on April 12, 1997, at North Roanoke Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Peyton of Calvary Tabernacle Church officiating. The reception was held at Holiday Inn-Airport.

The bride was escorted to the altar by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Crystal Marven, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. The matron of honor was Heather Plunkett, friend of the bride. The bridesmaids were Melinda Marven, sister-in-law of the bride, Leigh Kurtz, Michelle Murray, Ginny Oyler, Renee' Snead, Jennifer Trail, and Melanie Wilborn, friends of the bride. The flower girls were Allie Bowles, cousin of the groom, and Kaitlyn Asbury, friend of the bride and groom.

Don Moses, father of the groom, and Chris Moses, brother of the groom, served as best men. The groomsmen were Kevin Marven, brother of the bride, Tommy Asbury, Trace King, Mike Kurtz, David Massie, Dean Peroulas, and David Suttles, friends of the groom. The ringbearers were Colby Wilborn and Tucker Suttles, friends of the bride and groom.

Chase Duncan, nephew of the bride, served as reader. Music was provided by Pamela (cousin of the bride) and Brian Ufen, vocalists, Ric McClure, trumpeter, and Martha Short, pianist/organist. Sarah Rice, friend of the bride and groom, served as program attendant and Michelle Bowles, cousin of the groom, attended the guestbook. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Linda S. Marven of Roanoke and Dr. and Mrs. L. Jonathan Marven of Reno, Nev. She is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Hollinga and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Vlietstra, all of Orange City, Iowa. She graduated from Northside High School and Roanoke College, and received her Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is employed by Good Samaritan Hospice.

The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Moses of Roanoke. He is a grandson of Mrs. Margaret Mitchell of Greensboro, N.C., the late Mr. Howard Mitchell, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene W. Moses, Jr. He graduated from Nor thside High School and attended Virginia Tech. He is employed by Federal Express.

Robbie and Kathy would like to thank their family and friends, whose love, support, and prayers made this day so special. The newlyweds will live in Roanoke County after a honeymoon in Nassau, the Bahamas.

Plymale-Cole

Wendy Ashton Cole and Mark Alan Plymale were married December 14, 1996 at The Beach House, The Hotel del Coronado, Coronado, Calif., with Rev. Richleigh Hale Powers officiating. The reception was held at The Beach House, The Hotel del Coronado, Coronado, Calif.

The matron of honor was Mrs. Madeline Zahringer. The best man was Mr. Jeff Landon

The bride wore an ivory satin gown and carried a cascade of champagne roses and ivy. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John Cole, Jr., Roanoke, Va. She is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School, Roanoke, Va. and attended Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va. She is employed by Sullivan, Hill, Lewin, Rez, Engel & LaBazzo.

The bridegroom is the son of Dar Plymale and Shirley Plymale of Roanoke, Va. He is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School, Roanoke, Va. and Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va. He is employed by Frazee Paint and The Padres.

The newlyweds are living in San Diego, Calif.

Poff-Boone

Regina Lynn Boone, daughter of John Richard and Carol Sue Boone, and James Edward Poff, son of Charles Edward and Lois Boitnott Poff, were married on April 5, 1997, at Waverly Place Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va. at 7:30 in the evening. Pastor Charles Hoffler officiated the candlelight ceremony.

The bride, carrying a bouquet of one dozen red roses, wore a white ball gown featuring six layers of tulle skirt, a sweetheart neckline, Basque waistline, long fitted sleeves, and a cathedral length train. The matron of honor was Paula Merritt Etzler. The best man was C. W. Shaver. The bride and groom, each an only child, honored their parents by having them serve in the wedding party. Amanda Bailey, the bride's cousin, served as the flowergirl. The ushers were David Caulder, Steve Charlier, Ethan Cooper, Jason Starns, and Dean Stone. The guestbook was attended by Tracie Boitnott Gross. The guitar/vocal soloist was David Austin and the wedding director was Nancy McGuire. Flowers were done by Sheryl English. A dance reception followed at the Vinton War Memorial.

Regina is employed as a P.A. Analyst for W.V. Medical Institute. James is a civil engineer at VDOT. After a two-week honeymoon to Park City, Utah, the Grand Canyon, and Las Vegas, the couple will live in Richmond.

Rowell-Gibson

Melanie Dawn Gibson and Timothy Scott Rowell were married February 8, 1997, in Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Eddie Ard officiating. The reception was held in the Church Common Room.

The matron of honor was Julie Allison of Central, S.C., friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Andra Rowell of Flower Mound, Texas, sister-in-law of the groom, Penny Waddell, Katie Waddell of Lawrenceville, Ga., cousins of the groom, Robyn Felton and Allison Braswell of Athens, Ga., friends of the bride and groom

The best man was Beau Rowell of Flower Mound, Texas, brother of the groom. Ushers were Steve Gibson of Troutville, Va., brother of the bride, Kenny Clark of Columbia, S.C. and Christopher Felton of Athens, Ga., friends of the bride and groom, Lew Lewellen of Valdosta, Ga., friend of the groom, and Bill Waddell of Lawrenceville, Ga., cousin of the groom. The guestbook was attended by Tessa Montgomery.

The bride wore an ivory satin a-line dress with an empire waistline. She carried nine bridal white roses on her mother's Prayer Book. Trainbearers were Ariel Gibson of Troutville, Va., niece of the bride, Halie Waddell and Maggie Waddell of Lawrenceville, Ga., cousins of the groom, and Courtney Bowles of Salem, Va., cousin of the bride.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank R. Gibson of Roanoke, Va. She is a graduate of Northside High School, Roanoke, Va., Southern Wesleyan University, Central, S.C., and the University of Georgia, Athens, Ga. She is employed by First United Methodist Church in Athens and teaches private voice.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry B. Rowell, Jr. of Trumbull, Conn. He is employed by Post Modern Editorial of Atlanta, Ga.

The newlyweds are living in Atlanta, Ga. after the wedding trip to Jamaica.

Russell-Boyd

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Russell of Roanoke would like to announce the marriage of their son, Frankie L. Russell, to Linda L. Boyd. The couple was married March 21, 1997 in Franklin County. Mr. Russell is an employee of Roanoke Restaurant Services. Mrs. Russell is an employee of Blue Ridge Community Services. The couple will make their home in Boones Mill, Va. They will honeymoon later in the summer.

Stanley-Bush

Sandra Gail Bush and Jeffrey Len Stanley were united in marriage April 11, 1997, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Reverend Claude Dykes officiating.

The bride is the daughter of James and Geneva Bush of Vinton. The groom is the son of Bobby and Barbara Stanley of Roanoke.

The couple will reside in Roanoke

Teresa Jane Bowman and Andrew Cocke Thrasher were married on Saturday, April 12, 1997. The Reverend Fre d Ellsworth officiated. The ceremony and reception were held at the Friendship Manor Residents' Center.

Christi Harless, friend of the bride, was the matron of honor. Danny Herndon, friend of the groom, was the best man.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bowman. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Thrasher, Jr.

Paige Langhorne Kucera and James Daniel Whalen, Junior, Lt. United States Air Force, were married April 12, 1997 in First Presbyterian Church in Richmond with Rev. Walter Mann and Rev. Randy Stevens officiating. The reception was held at Salisbury Country Club, also in Richmond.

The maid of honor was Heather Boyd, friend. The matron of honor was Valerie Ercelebi, friend. Bridesmaids were Janet Whalen, sister of the groom, and Stacie Townley, friend. The flowergirls were Caitlin Sheppard, cousin of the bride, and Sarah Caton, friend.

The best man was Mark Coassolo, friend. Ushers were Steve Short, friend, Jonathan Kucera, Jr., brother of the bride, Terry Whalen, brother of the groom, and Andrew Sheppard, cousin of the bride. The ringbearer was David Caton, friend.

The bride wore a lace and silk gown and carried a bouquet of white gardenias. She is the daughter of Mr. Jonathan J. Kucera of Midlothian and the late Mary Langhorne Byrne Kucera. She is a graduate of Trinity E piscopal High School, Richmond, Va. and Radford University, Radford, Va.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Whalen of Mahanoy City, Pa. He is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Va. and is employed by the United States Air Force.

The newlyweds will live in Sumpter, South Carolina.
