Benson-Phillips

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Taylor Benson of Richmond, Virginia announce the engagement of their daughter, Frances Taylor, of New York City, to Frederic Houghton Phillips, II, also of New York City, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederic H. Phillips of Fincastle, Virginia.

Miss Benson was graduated from Collegiate School in Richmond and from Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Stewart K. Materne and the late Mr. Materne, and the late Mr. Edmund L. Benson, Jr. and the late Mrs. Frances Taylor Benson. Miss Benson is employed by Chanel, Inc.

Mr. Phillips, II was graduated from North Cross School in Roanoke and from Washington College in Chestertown, Md. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Russell G. Phillips and the late Mr. and Mrs. Donald C. Keane, all of Charlottesville. Mr. Phillips is employed by Salomon Brothers. A September wedding is planned.

Cantwell-Lincoln

Tara Louise Cantwell and Davis Williams Lincoln, Jr. are engaged and planning to be married on September 20, 1997, in Roanoke. She is the daughter of Cameron Cantwell of Weaverville, N.C. and Janet Cantwell of Asheville, N.C. She is a graduate of Roanoke College.

Davis is the son of Julie C. Allie of Roanoke, Va. Both reside in the Richmond area.

Carter-Huffman

Angela Gail Carter and Timothy Lloyd Huffman are engaged and planning to be married on August 23, 1997, in Newport, Va. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Brie of Eagle Rock and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Carter of Covington. She is a graduate of Alleghany High School and Virginia Western Community College, and is employed by Terry W. Slaughter, D.D.S. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Huffman of Newport. He is a graduate of New Castle High School and Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, and is employed by the U.S. Forest Service.

Hamblin-Rolley

John and Nancy Hamblin of Rocky Mount are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Alison, to Chad Rolley, son of Richard and Pat Rolley of Burnt Chimney. Grandparents of the bride-elect are Mr. and Mrs. Everett Stanley and the late Rev. and Mrs. Richard Hamblin. Grandparents of the groom-to-be are Mrs. Amy Thomas and the late Mr.. Grady Thomas. Paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rolley. Alison is a graduate of Ferrum College and is a CPA with MW Manufacturers. Chad is employed with Carter Machinery in Salem. A July wedding is planned.

Wendy D. Jamison and James C. Booth are engaged and planning to be married on April 26, 1997, in Bluefield, Va. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Creston F. Jamison, Jr. of Cherokee, N.C. She is a graduate of Graham High School and Va. Tech, and is employed by National Window and Door, Christiansburg, Va.

James is the son of Captain and Mrs. James E. Booth, USN, Norfolk, Va. He is a graduate of Stratford High School and is attending Va. Tech. He is employed by National Window and Door, Christiansburg, Va

Stead-VanDyke

Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Frece of Roanoke, Va., and Charles R. Stead of Reston, Va., announce the engagement of their daughter, Christianne V. Stead, to Mr. Joshua James VanDyke, son of Mr. and Mrs. James VanDyke of Burke, Va. A summer wedding is planned.

Miss Stead is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Turpin of Lexington, Va.

Miss Stead is a graduate of Radford University and is employed by Honeytree Early Learning Centers. Mr. VanDyke is also a graduate of Radford University and is currently in the United States Army.

Thompson-Shaner

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wayne Thompson of Roanoke are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kelly Noelle Thompson, to John Powell Royall Shaner, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas Shaner, Sr., of Salem.

Kelly is a graduate of Cave Spring High School. She received her Bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnical Institute in Physical Education and Health, and her Master's degree from Old Dominion University in Physical Therapy. She is employed by ServiceMaster Rehabilitation, L.P., in Roanoke.

John is a graduate of Salem High School. He received his Bachelor's degree from West Virginia Wesleyan in Physical Education and Health, and his Master's degree from Marshall University in Athletic Administration. He is employed by the City of Salem.

Via-Boyd

Melanie Dawn Via and Stewart Eric Boyd are engaged and planning to be married on August 16, 1997 in Roanoke. She is the daughter of Mrs. Josephine Via of Roanoke and the late Rev. James Via. She is a graduate of William Fleming High School and Virginia Western Community College, and is employed by The Roanoke Times. He is the son of Ms. Margaret Boyd of Roanoke and the late Mr. Donald Goode Sr. He is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and attended Virginia State University. He is employed by DePaul Family Services

Young-Patrick

Virginia ``Ginny'' Lynn Young and Keith Edward Patrick are engaged and planning to be married on May 17, 1997, in Roanoke. She is the daughter of C. David Young of Salem and Connie S. Arnold of Blue Ridge. She is a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, Va. Western, and Ferrum College, and is employed by Downtown Learning Center.

Keith is the son of Dennis and Yvonne Patrick of Roanoke. He is a graduate of Northside High School and Va. Western Community College, and is employed by ADT Security.
