NORFOLK NAMES DIRECTOR FOR TOURIST PROJECT

{LEAD} The city of Norfolk has named Samuel B. Rogers as its new marketing director.

Rogers will manage the Virginia Waterfront campaign and will work on boosting tourism in conjunction with other Hampton Roads cities and businesses.

{REST} Norfolk has committed three years to the Virginia Waterfront campaign, which promotes the region, including Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg as tourist attractions.

Rogers brings 16 years of experience in marketing and public relations to Norfolk.

An executive vice president and director of public relations for Elkman Advertising & Public Relations in a Philadelphia suburb, he has worked on consumer accounts like Pennsylvania's tourism-marketing program and the Pocono Mountains Vacation Bureau.

From 1980 to 1987, Rogers served in different positions at the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Before that, he worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Commerce in tourism promotion.

The Steubenville, Ohio, native graduated cum laude from Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. He also has served on various tourism and cultural committees.
