SHARPE HAT TRICK STOPS USISL ATLANTIC TEAM

The United States Interregional Soccer League All-Stars brought a sharp-shooter to the league's first showcase affair Wednesday at the Center for Effective Learning.

Sharpe shooter, that is.

In a matchup pitting Atlantic Division all-stars against selected players from the league's seven other divisions, a hat trick by the USISL's leading scorer, Richard Sharpe, boosted the USISL team to a 4-3 victory in front of 1,600 fans.

``We seemed to kick it about quite well in the midfield and they were able to find me,'' said Sharpe, a native of England who has 25 goals for the Cocoa Expos. ``Scoring three goals sure didn't hurt (my reputation). I'll settle for three any day.''

Sharpe broke a 1-1 first-half tie with his first two goals on assists from Jeff Davis of the St. Louis Knights.

Less than three minutes into the game, Michael Collins of the Milwaukee Rampage scored unassisted to give the USISL a 1-0 lead, only to have Keith Dakin of the Charlotte Eagles tie it two minutes later.

In the second half, Charleston Battery teammates Paul Young and Guy Norcott were brought in for the Atlantic and closed the game to 3-2 when Young blasted in a shot from about 30 yards out after taking a pass from Norcott.

But Sharpe's completion of the hat trick 42:31 into the contest, when he took a pass from Andrew Ziemer of the North Bay Breakers and beat David Allred of the Raleigh Flyers, made it a two-goal game again.

Eddie Radwanski of the Greensboro Dynamo - last year's league MVP - finished out the scoring with about four minutes left when he took a feed from Leo Sarrano of the Washington Mustangs.

``We played too relaxed in the first half,'' Radwanski said. ``But we played with more pride in the second half and took the game to them. All in all, we gave the fans a pretty entertaining game.''
