BOWLARAMA PREP TEAM TAKES NATIONAL YOUTH DUCKPIN TITLE

The Bowlarama Prep team of Norfolk has won a national title in the 21st annual Coca-Cola Youth Duckpin Championship, held at T-Bowl Lanes in Newington, Conn.

The Bowlarama Preps compiled a handicap three-game series of 2,160 for an eight-pin victory over runner-up Holiday Lanes of Manchester, Conn.

Coached by Sonny Breeden, Bowlarama qualified as state champion with only four bowlers and a blind for an absent fifth bowler. The team had to compete with the blind in the national, too.

Team members were Robert McIntyre, Aimee Miller, Danielle Daneker and Chris Reynolds. Bowlarama had scratch games of 406, 392 and 414 with 948 pins handicap.

Miller paced the prep champs with a 318 series, rolling games of 113, 89 and 116. Miller is only a 58-average bowler.

Reynolds, who averages 79, posted 91, 90 and 81 for 262. Daneker, also a 56-average bowler, shot games of 75, 84 and 90 for 249. McIntyre, a 52-average scorer, had games of 67, 69 and 67 for 203. The blind score was 60 per game.

The two Virginia state champions from Portsmouth, representing Victory Lanes, placed seventh in the Junior Division and third in the Major Division.

Miller won the Zarrella Award, presented to the bowler who rolls the most pins over average. She was 150 pins over.

Miller and Kendra Allen of the Victory Major team also won $500 scholarships. Allen had high scratch series for girls with 398. Miller had high handicap series for girls with 519. by CNB
