JOHN L. SPELLMAN

John Larry Spellman, 38, of the 5400 block of Palham Road, Durham, a U.S. Army staff sergeant, died July 17, 1994, in his home.

He was born in Norfolk, Va., moved to Chesapeake at an early age and attended Indian River High School, where he graduated. He married and joined the U.S. Army and moved from the area. He was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church, Norfolk.

Survivors include his wife, Linda M. Pittman Spellman; two daughters, Dashonda R. Spellman and Torquailla Casandra Spellman of Durham; his mother and stepfather, Marie and Willie L. Spady of Norfolk; four sisters, Earnestine Jones and Callatte D. Day of Virginia Beach and Annie Marie White and Diane Lindsey of Norfolk; a brother, James B. Brown of Durham; and a grandchild, Tyana Laverne Spellman of Durham.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Olive Grove Baptist Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. Harry A. Davis. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family will be at 5545 Brickell Road, Norfolk. A family wake will be held in the Fitchett Funeral Home Chapel, Chesapeake, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
