FEDER'S `FACTS' ASTONISHING

Don Feder's July 13 column astonished me with its claims, including the following: Women assault their partners at the same rate as men (``although women are more likely to sustain severe injuries,'' ``women cause 54 percent of all severe family violence,'' ``the typical man who physically abuses his wife or girlfriend is a sociopath with a history of violence against men as well as women, drug or alcohol abuse and other criminal conduct.''

Most astonishing was the claim that of abusers ``three-quarters of the men were black, 15 percent Hispanic and 10 percent white'' and that ``someone in a white household with an annual income of less than $7,500 is five times as likely to be abused as a family member from a household with more than $50,000 in annual income.''

Even if they were true, the implication of all of these so-called ``facts'' is that since much of this violence is against poor African-American or Hispanic people, white Christian males don't need to worry about it.

Is this some new version of Christianity? Astonishing.

Why is your newspaper printing this nonsense?
