WILLIAM M. COLE

William M. Cole, 91, died July 21, 1994, at his residence at Westminster Canterbury on Shore Drive. He had lived previously at 48th street and then 72nd street at the Beach since his retirement from the Navy in 1954.

RAdm Cole was born in Chester, Pa., and was graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with the class of 1924. He served in destroyers, cruisers and at various shore duty stations over a 30 year Naval career, and was awarded the Navy Cross Medal for combat action in the South Pacific as Commanding Officer, U.S.S. Fletcher (DD-445) during World War II. After the Navy, RAdm Cole enjoyed his position as manager of the Norfolk Naval Air Station Branch of Seaboard Citizens National Bank, now Crestar Bank, for 15 years.

RAdm Cole is survived by his wife, Harriet M. Cole; his sister, Elizabeth C. Smith, and his son and daughter-in-law, William M. & Jane B. Cole II. His grandchildren are William M. Cole III, Laura C. Hedrick and her husband, Steven B. Hedrick, Susan S. Lawrence and Margaret C. Frankovich. His precious great-grandchildren are Steven, Robert and Tyler Hedrick. He is the widower of Emily L. Cole. Bill was greatly beloved, and will be very much missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 1994, at the Westminster-Canterbury Chapel by the Rev. David Humphreys. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday July 28, at Arlington National Cemetery.
