ROAD CREW WORKER KILLED

A motorist driving on the shoulder of Interstate 64 Thursday morning struck and killed a 47-year-old Pennsylvania man who was working on a highway crew, Virginia State Police said.

James L. Downey of Ulysses, Pa., was placing cautionary signs along one lane to close it when he was hit just after 5 a.m.

The driver, Thomas Glenn G. Pasterczyk, 21, is stationed aboard the submarine Sunfish, police said. Pasterczyk, of Chicopee, Mass., was charged with reckless driving.
