As Gov. George Allen carries out the mandate given to him by the voters, Democrats in the Virginia General Assembly are dismayed that he wants his own team to carry out his agenda.
Gov. Allen has replaced more than 20 top-level Democrat-appointed agency heads and commissioners, some of whom presided over some of the most appalling waste, abuse and mismanagement of state resources the commonwealth has seen in the past 12 years.
He didn't replace most of them because of political-party affiliation. Rather, they either created, ignored or tacitly approved wasteful spending. The Democrats neglect to tell us of wasted and misused state resources over the past three Democratic administrations.
Gov. Allen was elected to stop such outrageous abuses. Citizens of Virginia expect, and deserve, to have their tax dollars used in the most effective way.
I am proud that Gov. Allen is keeping his promise to shake up state government and bring honest change.
