CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

NORFOLK

On July 16, at 7:10 a.m., two men rang the bell at the rear door of the Pizzeria Uno's restaurant in the 5900 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. at Janaf Shopping Center.

When an employees opened the door, the men entered the store. One man was armed with a silver automatic handgun.

Two employees were ordered to lie on the floor while the manager was forced to open the safe. After taking the money, the robbers made the employees walk into the freezer. The gunmen then fled.

The first man is described as black, about 25, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 170 pounds. He had a light complexion, short hair and a goatee. He was wearing a white scarf on his head, a white short-sleeve dress shirt and tan pants.

The second man is described as black, about 25, 6 feet 2 inches tall and about 230 pounds. He had a dark complexion, short hair and a goatee. This robber was wearing a tan trench coat, white dress shirt, a brown tie and dark brown pants.

The robbers may have been driving a mid-80s model Honda, blue or silver with 30-day tags. The car may have rust spots near the window.

Nakia J. Bedward, 19, is wanted in connection with a rape that occurred on June 13 in the 900 block of East Ocean View Ave.

Bedward is described as black, 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 155 pounds. He frequents the Norview and Ocean View sections of Norfolk.

Katea L. Harrison, 19, who is also known as ``KT,'' is wanted for robbery and use of a firearm. The robbery occurred on June 23 in the 1300 block of Johnstons Road.

Harrison is described as black, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 150 pounds. His last known address was in the 5500 block of Bayberry Drive. Harrison should be considered armed and dangerous.

SUFFOLK

Suffolk Detective J.K. Cooke needs help in finding the person responsible for the robbery of Home Savings Bank.

On Wednesday, Aug. 3, about 12:35 p.m., a man entered the Home Savings Bank branch at 1455 N. Main St. He approached a teller, laid a handgun and a bag on the counter and demanded that she give him all the money.

After receiving the money, the suspect fled.

The man is described as black, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 170 to 190 pounds with a beard and mustache. He was wearing sunglasses, a dark cloth draped over his head and a dark-colored baseball cap turned backwards.

On July 21, several men drove through the area of Brooke Avenue and began shooting out of the car window.

As they drove by apartment 165 in the 900 block of Brooke, about eight shots were fired and at least two apartments were struck. The shots are believed to have come from a 9 mm handgun. One of the shots fired struck a 17-year-old.

The gunmen's vehicle was described as a Lincoln, possibly a 1970s model, four-door, brown or green, with a dark vinyl top.

PORTSMOUTH

Portsmouth Fire Marshals need help in solving an arson fire to a local business.

On Friday, June 24, between 2 a.m and 6 a.m., someone set fire to the Flame Restaurant & Lounge at 3501 George Washington Highway.

When the fire department arrived, the building was engulfed in flames.

The fire was reported by a passer-by shortly before 6 a.m. No one was injured.

Damage was estimated at more than $50,000. VIRGINIA BEACH

On Monday, July 11, at 11:55 p.m., the Blockbuster Video on Holland Road in the Timberlake Shopping Center was preparing to close when a man with a handgun robbed two female employees.

The gunman forced the women from the store and into a green 1993 Ford Aerostar owned by one of the victims.

The car had Pennsylvania license plates.

The employee was forced to drive to Interstate 464 in Chesapeake near Freeman Avenue where the both victims were released uninjured. The van was found seven days later on Dinwiddie Street in Norfolk.

The gunman is described as white, in his 20s, 6 feet tall with a medium build, short blond, wavy hair and wearing a white T-shirt, black shorts, and white tennis shoes. by CNB
