ROBERT E. JACKSON

Robert E. Jackson, 73, of the 3000 block of Turnpike Road, a retired rigger, died Aug. 8, 1994, in Hillhaven Nursing Home.

Mr. Jackson was born in Birmingham, Ala., son of the late Nellie T. and Luke Jackson. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after a number of years and was also retired from the U.S. Navy after 27 years of service. He was a member of New First Baptist Church Taylorsville in Portsmouth and Fleet Reserve Branch (NU)37.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes L. Jackson; a daughter, Brenda A. Benton of Portsmouth; a grandchild, Ronnie E. Benton Jr. of Portsmouth; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Winchester of Birmingham, Ala.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in New First Baptist Church Taylorsville, Portsmouth, by Dr. Thomas M. Steele. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Serenity Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the church. The family will receive friends at 173 Choate St., Portsmouth, where they will assemble at 11:15 a.m. Friday for the processional to the church. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
