PASQUOTANK REJECTS OFFER OF PART AIRPORT OWNERSHIP

Full ownership of the municipal airport is likely to remain in the city's hands despite the Elizabeth City Council's offer Monday to add Pasquotank County to the deed.

County commissioners rejected the offer Monday night because the county would not be able to get liability insurance for its share of the airport, County Manager Randy Keaton said Tuesday.

The commissioners recommended that the city either keep the deed or turn it over to the appointed authority that oversees airport operations.

City Manager Ralph Clark on Tuesday said the city would most likely retain the deed, which it once shared with the county before Pasquotank asked to be removed.

Officials had suggested that get outside funding for airport improvements would be easier to get if both governments - which generally split operating costs - had a share of the ownership. by CNB
