JOSEPH L. EVERETT

Joseph Lee Everett, 72, of the 6200 block of Sedgefield Drive, a construction supervisor, died Sept. 19, 1994, in Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport News.

Mr. Everett was born in Southampton County, Va., son of the late Eva Garner Washington and Caleb Everett. He was retired from Ames & Webb Construction after 30 years and also worked for Williams Construction. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk, and former member of the Male Usher Board. He was Inspector General for the St. Thomas Lodge (NU)251, Commander-in-Chief for Fitzpatrick Consistory (NU)1, Treasurer for the Mount Olive Grand Lodge and was organizer of the Sons & Daughters of Solomon. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a wonderful uncle and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys J. Everett; two daughters, Helen C. Everett Fennell White and Gloria S. Wright, both of Chesapeake; and two sons-in-law, Leon and Willis; two sisters, Betty Allgood of Boykins, Va., and Catherine Everett of New York City; two brothers, Alexander Everett of Norfolk and Herman Everett of Washington, D.C.; 14 grandchildren, Timothy, Deborah, Melvin Jr., Linda, Joey, Tina, Matthew Jr., Crystal, David, Angela, Pamela, Linda, Tina and Theresa; 31 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Virginia Kee; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk, by Dr. I. Joseph Williams. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. A wake will be held at Hale Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday. Family and friends will assemble at the home at 11 a.m. Saturday.
